Title: Makeup makes me happy...
Post by: Harley Quinn on November 13, 2016, 05:05:16 PM
I love makeup... it's so much fun. Although, picking up makeup while healing from surgery is torture... you can just look at it and take inventory. That's the hardest part of healing... waiting to try the new stuff! I am a big advocate of makeup in the "can I pass" threads. So I figured I would share a quick view at my kit bag... I am an advocate of brushes. They'll help tremendously with making your makeup look lighter and more natural. I know I get a few people who are shocked by just how much I don't pass... well, brushes are a mainstay.

Bringing out your inner beauty takes about 40 minutes if you're slow like I am... eyeliner is hell!

I advocate brushes for a lighter appearance of the finished product.

Not necessary, but handy.... contouring pallet. You can do the same with lighter and darker shades of foundation.

And never ever forget your eyebrow pencil! That's a lame picture so meh... you'll see one at the store... toss it in a bag with a mirror and a couple towels to wipe brushes and you're set!

:icon_dance: Makeup makes you happy?  :icon_dance:

OK, understatement of the year...

That's a nice collection, though, and great advice as always.  (It's brush cleaning day here...)

Wow! That is an impressive collection.  I am still in the process of buying and building my makeup collection.

You look great btw, and I am super jealous.

Thanks.  :)

Best advice is to take your time and get the sheer basics. Brush for liquid foundation, Brush for powder, one for eyeshadow and one for blending it. The rest is all fluff... 4 brushes will do almost all you'll ever need. If you run by a makeup store, they will probably let you have a few of their sample applicators... a couple bristle applicators are great to keep for grooming your brows. And they have some fine point sticks that work well for liquid eyeliner. I keep a few from the mac store so I didn't have to buy the brushes right away.

For me the nude lipsticks and a smokey eye pallet are my mainstays... the rest are just for fun

If you have a concealer 1 shade lighter than your foundation you can also use it to highlight and contour without spending money on a pallet... it also helps with beard shadow coverage having the lighter shade to conceal darker hair.

Hello Harley, wow, I guess you really do enjoy make up. And, you do it so well! I have been trying to learn some basic get by stuff for a couple of years and have my comfortable day look for an "Elderly" woman down pat. Women my age are not expected to be able to put out the polished look. On top of that I find it a lot easier to "pass" as people reaching my age lose some of their facial gender differences so wrinkles and lines are finally a plus. I will try to take your advice to bring in more brush action. I currently have only 2 that do most of the work. The liquid foundation goes on with my fingers, eye shadow has it own brush, and one blending brush for bronzer, blush and smoothing out a finishing powder. It gets me by but you have convinced me to up my game a bit. Thanks for the challenge, it can only get better!

Anne

I agree with you Harley - good brushes, with proper technique, can make a big difference.  Personally I like using a stippling brush to apply my liquid foundation.  Lots of small, circular motions with a stippling brush will really help buff the foundation in, giving a natural, air-brushed look.

Love the train case. I got half my makeup from a friend when I came out a a little over a year ago.  It came in a giant pro case. I was spoiled! This is how I received it when we met up for lunch... I almost fell out of the truck!

Sometimes I wish it was a hard case, but I do love how you can pull out each compartment. Just the one for face, just for eyes, just for lips, etc...

Definitely! I use a stippling brush for concealer and for liquid foundation. Best brushes I ever got... but wow do they ever soak up product!

OK Harley, you win. I picked up a stippling brush at Sephora's last week and I have to admit that I love it. It gives such a soft smooth look to the skin. So now I use the stippling brush for liquid foundation, a little flat brush for eye shadow (no, not the ones that come in the kits, I am at least better than that), sometimes an eyebrow brush for evening out the color from my eyebrow pencil, and a soft smoothing brush for powder, blush and contouring bronzer.

You sold me on the stippling brush, what brush should be my next step on the slippery slope of makeup addiction?

Hugs,
Anne
