I wrote a book of an email to my immediate family today. Explained ->-bleeped-<- as a medical issue, noted that I'd been struggling for a long time, and offered a positive view of the future where they could get to know the real me, rather than this fake shell.
My mom got back to me first. She was very supportive, but definitely struggling to process things. It was better than expected, big thanks to my lesbian sister who started the process of opening their minds years ago xD
My sister and her wife already knew, so no surprises there. My other sister has firmly established herself as a bigot, so I'm not even bothering to let her know.
Still waiting to hear back from Dad and my brother.
I feel a million pounds lighter, and at the same time the feeling of "oh crap this is really happening" is nearly overwhelming. But I'm feeling good overall.
Tomorrow I see my therapist to discuss starting HRT. It's been an eventful weekend already!

I heard back from my dad and brother today. My father was incredibly understanding and opened up to me quite a bit, which means a lot because he's always been a very private person. I was very happy to get his reply. My brother is in the same boat as my mom -- not really sure what all this means, but is supportive. I couldn't ask for a better response, and I'm enjoying not feeling the dread of telling them looming over me anymore.
I also told a group of friends I've gamed with for several years and got lots of love from them. Had a nice long discussion about coming out with one who's gay, and it felt good to be accepted as trans by friends.
To top it all off, my therapist approved HRT yesterday at our session, so I'm setting up an appointment with planned parenthood when they open tomorrow.
I'm feeling more and more confident about this every day it seems :) It's been a great weekend!
