Title: Numbness in lower leg from surgery?
Post by: mistyjensen on November 19, 2016, 01:46:51 PM
Hello,

Since my vaginoplasty surgery, I've been experiencing numbness, tingling, and more recently shooting pain in the lower calf muscle of one of my legs. I imagine it's as if someone is putting needles in my leg. My surgeon and I suspect that the numbness might have occurred because of how I was laying down for five hours during my surgery and for long stretches afterwards. The surgeon thinks that the numbness will go away without intervention. He is not overly concerned about the issue. The surgeon says that the shooting pain in the leg is a sign that the nerve(s) is healing. However, the numbness in my leg concerns me more than the pain from the surgery. Did anyone else experience numbness in the lower leg following surgery?

Mariah had pulled muscles from being in the stirrups for four hours during surgery. It took us about a week to get her reasonably mobile and more that a week to get her more or less back to normal. In her case, we were icing her leg as well has her surgery then moving her as much as possible to keep the leg from stiffing up.

There are  few reports of sciatic nerve damage following surgery due to compression by the stirrups. Unfortunately it can be permanent, I would keep talking to your surgeon and ask for a referral to a neurologist if things don't clear up.
