Thank you Alora! [emoji182] [emoji173] [emoji182]  I just came out to myself. I self actualized. I have not yet come out to my parents. I am going to definitely need some support from lovely ladies like you.

Congrats Saira, I'm at that same stage you are in the moment.  It is certainly a bumpy ride :)

You're not the only one, I haven't even considered broaching the subject with them yet. I need to get stronger and more confident in my new self before I try. I have however, come out to a handful of trust instructors and a couple friends.

Sorry for the delay in response, nah they don't know yet.  I'll probably hold off from telling them for a while, I think once I am deep into transitioning and can longer disguise it (I hope) I'll tell them.  If I tell them now, before even taking HRT they are likely to lecture me, shame me, do whatever it is they think they can to stop me.  Not necessarily because they are horrible people, they just don't have any clue as to what it is like.  Hopefully, by that point they will take into consideration the hardships of others.  If they can not accept it, then I can move on with life.  I gave them and others the person they wanted me to be, for long enough.  The sacrifice has got to end.

At this point, I'm quite frankly to feeble to endure such hardship from them.  By then, I hope to have had a lot of therapy and have resolved a lot.

As a side note, this is just my approach.  Not likely to be a good one for everyone.

I've decided not to come out to anyone until the new year, and it's killing me. It does feel nice to finally be out to myself, though! At least I have you ladies to talk to for the time being.

Just don't hurt yourself, Ashley!  And yes, you've got all of use to chat with, and of course everyone else here will give you the moral support you might need.

Try not to keep yourself buried away too long.  I can tell you from my experience that 30 years of hiding is definitely too long! ;)

Welcome aboard Saira and congratulations for your coming out and growing self awareness as a transgender person.  We have heard many times that the toughest person to come out to is ourselves.  Once we get it and find further reinforcement we are able to spread our wings and lift off with far less fear of falling.

Transgender is an adjective and only one of the many descriptors we might own in life.  Transition and self discovery can become obsessive and understandably so as the foundation of our identity.  Yet many of us would rather the rest of the world see us as whole and unique beings with more than just a massive T on our foreheads.  We are still more than the sum of our parts and as the bumper sticker says, It's about hearts not parts, anyway ;D

Coming out can be shocking and/or elicit the "so?" or "big deal, we guessed that" sort of response.  What others think can impact us or we can hear it as just more noise along our journey.  I wish us all the strength this can take!

More than the masses it seems it is the significant others we cherish that can be a rock of support or one to get past.  Coming out can feel terribly vulnerable and yet we are seen as courageous.  It might also reveal more about others as real friends or??   Your truth your way ;D

God, I know! It's so funny. Denied this part of myself for so long, but have finally accepted myself a few weeks ago and now I'm bursting to kick down doors and be like "HEY GUESS WHAT" haha.

Yeah.  My therapist tells me I have a cruel streak...  On LinkedIn, the professional Facebook wannabe, I had my full resume and brag sheet, old name and photo.  Last summer, when I had a pretty good idea where I was headed, I took down the photo and replaced the old first name with an initial.  My 120 or so connections didn't say anything, no change in activity or other clues.

A couple days ago, I put up my new avatar, same as my current one here, and my chosen first name.  Then I posted a snapshot of an old name tag from a place I had worked at 30 years ago. Posts show up in all my connection's feeds by default.   ;)  With the new name.  And a thumbnail of the new avatar...   Bwahahah!

Page views are up like 600%.   ;D

Hey, everybody!  Guess what!?!!   >:-)
