Title: Thanksgiving w/Family .. Who's wearing a dress?
Post by: Sinclair on November 23, 2016, 09:45:53 PM
Me! I posted before about my brother who is gay, but into the macho gay scene, and literately knows no one in the trans community. So, not worried about the rest of my family, some know. So, turkey and a dress .. I'm so excited, but worried, we'll see. ???

That's brave. I was considering a long skirt for awhile, but I am chickening out and will probably opt for skinny jeans and a very femme top.

Thank you for noticing. 1 year living as a woman. I sort of think of it as my birthday.

Why am I chickening out?
It's complicated. It's just my mom, my brother and my sister. And me. And my sister is the only one who is really OK with it. It's just easier, I guess.  Just showing up at a Thanksgiving dinner in women's clothing at all is a major milestone for me.  It won't be pleasant but I think this is all they can take at this point.
Needless to say my family dynamic is and always has been problematic for me.

I'm working a community dinner at the local Unitarian Universal church.  I don't know exactly what I'll be doing, so I'm sticking to something practical that I won't mind messing up.

Friday I'm doing a combined Thanksgiving and birthday party, at which my sister-in-law and adult son, who both flew in for the week, will meet me for the first time.  Skinny jeans, turtleneck, and denim jacket, professional daytime makeup, similar to the avatar.  Something simple that won't push too hard on their old image of me.

I'll be alone, but most likely I'll be sportin' a dress  :icon_chick:

Since I have family over at my house and I'm still healing from surgery I will likely be in a Skirt or a dress this year. Hugs

I'm visiting my mother/younger sisters for thanksgiving and was planning to for the first time wear feminine clothes and essentially come out to my younger sisters (my mother knows and is supportive just my siblings are unaware) but I postponed it to christmas. Stupid beard shadow refuses to go away even with foundation. I just had my 4th laser removal done tuesday so hopefully it's more clearer by then Haha But enjoy yourself!

Awww ... *hugs* :)

I'm back home.

Well, it was freedom day for me. I was out and some people were here I didn't know. I dressed to the 9s with full make-up, and dressed in my best. It was awesome. I never felt so free. Turns out my brother suspected, based on our conversations, and was accepting, even though his crew is tatted up and macho. So, I'm home now. What a stressful day though. But I feel free. And the best thing, I looked good! :) What a great day!

I wore a black, above the knee skirt. For some reason a dress is harder to do with family and I  haven't done it yet. Of course if I find one that makes me look good I'm off to the races.

I had a 2 hour drive each way to go see my mom and sister. I'm not out to them yet, so I dressed in skinny jeans and a blouse-like dress shirt. After I left them, I pulled over and used the lady's room at a fast food place to put on makeup and change into a short dress, heals and tights.

My wife, my daughter, son's girlfriend--none in a dress--all in skinny jeans.

Not me either.

I had a wonderful time with these people I love more than life itself but sat at the dinner table confronting the fact that I just cannot bring myself to disrupt the current equilibrium of the extended family by coming out to them, not an issue I want  to rehash here.   I sat at the head of the table somewhat conflicted ostensibly as the patriarch of the family, including our grandchild, trying to avoid actively confronting the fact that I would have preferred wearing a skirt to dinner.

Oh, well...

this seems to be a common hurdle, why is that?

i feel like if i can get past all my other hurdles (of which are many) and out full time, i would be wearing the laciest dresses i could find. i would probably over compensate as a female. however i have not walked in these shoes.
