I have had huge issues with hypersensitivity of my face and the difficulties this poses in relation to electrolysis. I could only manage 10 to 15 minutes. I then experimented with creams including a compounded script with high levels of anaesthetic in them...about 4 times higher than Emla cream. It has helped and I managed to do about 20 minutes max then would have to give up.
I finally found a dentist who would give me nerve blocks so my lips and chin and was then able to have 3 x1 hour session over 4 weeks. This has practically cleared my top lip bearing in my I have about a 60-40 ratio of black to grey hair and the laser is doing a great job on them. About the same time I found a Dr who would give local anesthetic injections into my face. These took about 2-3 minutes to administer and enabled me to have an hour straight where I don't move and she can really work fast. In three sessions she has cleared the complete right side slightly above my jawline and half completed the left. She can keep the current high thereby increasing her ability to get that one zap one kill very high. Because I don't move she doesn't have to stop...I have another 10 x 1 hour sessions booked with the injections and going by the pace we currently are I will be clear of all the really heavy grey "posts" and for some reason there a many areas where hair hasn't come back and its been 9 months or more.
Finally making some real progress, I had a laser treatment Friday and I can tell from the look of the dark hairs that most of them are dead...so will get a good result. I have my last session before Xmass next week and the skin will get a break. For the first time in a long time Electrolysis doesn't scare me because I am not in pain and the more relaxed you are the less pain you have anyway... ;D

Wow, bully for you! I'm headed for round 2 in Lewisville (E3K) in a few weeks, and I know how much difference a little well-placed anesthetic can make. Without it, I did almost 3 hours once, but it took every ounce of my will.
This is wonderful news for anyone who can't practically get to Lewisville. I'm really glad to hear you're getting over the hump!

Wow! Liz, you are just one determined gal, charging ahead like that. The electrolysis work sounds like it is really moving along quickly for you now with the numbing shots.
Good for you, and I'm really happy you've found a way to get it done!

I don't understand the difference between the Dr and dentist. They both do injections right?
Do these injections cover all parts of the face? Dr Hayes does only upper lip.
Dentist gives me nerve blocks that totally numb the area around my lips and mouth along with parts of the chin and bottom lip. These are given through the mouth and can be a bit uncomfortable but only take a few minutes. I could feel nothing for about 95% of the sessions on my top lip.
In order to numb the jawline and lower face My Dr injected again through my mouth but not into nerves leaving one half of my face from just above the jaw line to just below it completely numb.
Yesterday was where I thought we would have huge issues but as we were injecting directly into the skin from the outside. It was less painful than going through the mouth and so effective my technician ran out of area to work on.
The net result is that I don't move the whole time Electrologist is working and she is able to keep the current right up to help ensure the one ZAP one KILL ratio is very high and work really fast. She cleared half my face from just along the jawline down my neck yesterday in 45 minutes before she ran out of work.
The injections directly into the skin worked amazingly well and next Tuesday I will ensure I have a larger area prepared for her to work on. The rate she is going I will have my first full clearance completed in the next couple of sessions. I seem to have very little new growth which I am not sure how unusual that is, I would have expe4cted new growth in area's I had cleared months ago but there just isn't any. Maybe in other parts of the face it will be different...hope not!!
