For MTFs can an operation be done that only creates the vulva or does the vagina have to be made along with it? I've looked online in many places and haven't found an answer. I'm wondering because I would prefer to get it done with only the vulva.
You can get one without vaginal canal (vulva only)

Thank you
That is an option with Dr. Brassard in Montreal.
I am having this done with Dr. Dugi in Portland, Oregon in a few months. Many surgeons offer it, but only a few like Meltzer and Brassard advertise such.
aren't you afraid of developing another dysphoria with time ? It is impossible to create the cavity after its done. Just curious
There is a thread about this somewhere and the advantages are faster healing time and no dilation. You still have a very small vagina in order to give everything the proper shape but it's not functional. The disadvantage is should you change your mind, constructing a vagina would be very difficult and costly.

The doctor told me that I would have about 1.5 to 2 inches of depth, which would be necessary to make it look realistic and "hold everything in place" while it healed. It would NOT be impossible to create a deep vagina later, but it would be difficult and would involve either a colon section or a graft of something (a skin graft or buccal mucosa or similar) placed over a newly dissected space.
The advantages of the no-depth procedure include (as mentioned) no need to dilate and a faster healing time. There is no risk of a rectovaginal fistula, and the risk of urinary problems post-op is lessened because the various muscles and connections are not as strained as they would have been from a deep pelvic dissection (this is what my surgeon told me.) In my own case I have my own reasons for wanting this done, but ultimately it boils down to the fact that I don't think one needs to have a deep vagina to be sexual as well as my opinion (and this is only my opinion) that none of the current surgical techniques to line the vagina (available to TS women, anyway) are as "natural" in function as I would like.
Hope this helps.
