Title: How old is too old?
Post by: Trystlynn on December 17, 2016, 11:04:52 AM
Hey ya'll

Probably come up before, but wanted to know if there is an age at which you're considered too old for SRS, or does it have to do with other factors, i.e., overall health, pre-existing conditions, etc.....

It is probably have to do with other factors, not age. But some surgeons uses age as guidelines since as we age the risk increases, the curve is just like a hill.

People are doing it well into their 60's.

The limit is being able to withstand the surgery with a reasonable risk. If there are health issues, you should consider a surgeon who works with a full medical center and is able to handle complications should they occur. They will be able to deal with higher risk patients than a doctor who uses a clinic. I have heard of a woman who received her surgery in her 70's and the 60's is pretty common.

Your overall health and fitness are likely to be greater factors than age, but it will vary from doctor to doctor. I think Dena's advice is very spot on.

Thanks all...
I'm in late 50s and in good health condition...exercise frequently and no health issues.
I feel failrly comfortable in my ability to transition when the time is upon me.

I have one friend, age 62, who just had her FFS yesterday, and has SRS coming up in three months.  Another, age 64, has SRS next summer.  I'm 63 and about a year from SRS as scheduling in our HMO currently looks.

I'm 61 and 3 weeks post op SRS. I am in good health and my surgeon considered me a good candidate for anesthesia  and surgery.

I was one month short of 65 when I had my GRS, a friend was 74 when she had hers.
Maximum age is dictated by your health and the surgeons age rules for accepting patients.

No upper limit.

I had my SRS at age 67.

The only limiting factors are obesity and any cardiac or pulmonary issues.

Most surgeons will not operate unless the BMI is below 30 and some require below 28.

Blood pressure, pulse rate and EKG must be normal.

Untreated COPD may also exclude you from surgery.

I believe there is a term called consecutive sexuality and googling that may be of assistance.

I had FFS just shy of 57.  Two weeks later I had BA.  Nine months after that I had GRS.  I was in decent shape but not great.

I had my SRS, FFS and BA in one session with PAI a couple of months before my 68th birthday, last January.Had fab results and zero pain. I wrote a topic on this. I am exceptionally fit and healthy. There is an American who I recently met, she now also lives in Bangkok and also had her SRS at PAI last August at 70 yrs old.

Suporn has a 65 age limit which is flexible depending on your health. All other top surgeons handle SRS based on their full health check before surgery.
