Does anyone have experience with Dr Leis? My spouse wants to transition this summer MTF. We can't find a lot of info on Dr Leis. We think we've seen that he was associated with Dr Mcginn, but not sure. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Trying to determine if it's better to stay in US or go to Thailand. But going overseas seems like a daunting task. We are becoming overwhelmed.
Hi Marc, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm giving you the same advice I just gave another poster:
If you go to the main page (click the blue "Forums" tab at the top of any page) and search for your Doctor's name you'll find a ton of threads. Good luck, and I'll see you around the site!
Hugs, Devlyn
Leis taught McGinn. He's been around for a while and is fairly established. Will work with just about any insurance. He has plenty of pictures on his website to look at. I personally know a FTM guy who had his phalloplasty done by Leis and he is very happy. Can't speak to the MTF results.
Thanks for the responses. This is all very new to me. I'm trying to support my spouse in what she wants in life and really want a good outcome.
Dr. McGinn's patients are on the 4th floor of Lower Bucks and Dr. Leis's are on the 3rd floor of Lower Bucks Hospital.
I do not know the cost of Dr. Leis for GCS.
Dr. McGinn is $14,500, Anesthesia is $1,800 and Lower Bucks is $5,350. This is as of 11/15/2016 and for certified checks paid up front. Lower Bucks refused my check at the day of the procedure and chose to go through my insurance.
I had GCS with Dr. McGinn then 2 procedures in her office, a visit on Thanksgiving, I see her Thursday and will need another procedure In May. My GCS was a not typical.
I saw Dr. Leis present at a trans conference in Philly. He was very personable. In fact there was a person there who had some off the wall questions. He was very patient with this very persistent person. Past this, I don't know his work. If you are in that area you might check out the conference. I think Leis and Rumer make a presentation there. Dr. McGinn does not. She seems to have a longer waiting list for people to see her. She is transgender herself. My personal thought about going over seas is it is very hard if there are complications. I had a complication and was glad my surgeon was not on the other side of the planet. Other folks see it differently. You should become familiar with the WPATH rules that people wanting certain surgeries must adhere to. You have things like wait times to consider also. A consult with a surgeon usually costs $100 to $150. Thank you so much for supporting your SO. It makes such a difference.
