"Texas could soon have its own controversial anti-LGBT 'bathroom bill'.
State Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has said moves to introduce such a bill as has proven catastrophic to states like North Carolina, will be a priority in the new legislative session.
The bill, a version of which has caused North Carolina to lose business, sporting events and music events, would stop transgender Texans from using any bathroom which does not correspond to the gender stated on their birth certificate."

I find it interesting that Texas politicians are totally gung ho to follow the same disastrous path that NC did with HB2 but apparently expects a different outcome. It seems that nothing was learned by them from the NC experience.

If they proceed to enact a HB2 style bill then hopefully they'll get the same results that NC did, with deep impacts to sports teams, entertainment, and business cancellations.

Money is the only thing that that the politicians in Texas understand and once they feel the economic impact of their decision they may find that bigotry comes with a price tag.

Lt Gov Patrick seems to believe that, because Houston rejected an action to protect the right of transgendered people to use restrooms corresponding to their true gender - and apparently has suffered no economic consequences, that Texas will not have North Carolina's experience with this proposed state-wide law.  A weak argument, I imagine.  I hope this goes away quickly.

This will not go over well. I might have to carry a laminated copy of my birth certificate in my purse.

They usually propose bills like this in order to distract the public when they are planning something else that is going to suck. As conservative as Texas is, they'll probably make it law.

I'm sure we will see a few more of these as regressive politicians seek to exert power. Then there will be business backlash and political embarrassment and ultimately they will fail.

Exactly, and when they find out their precious sports teams will be shunned at the collegiate and pro levels they'll backpedal like no tomorrow.
