It didn't go into enough detail, so I might be completely off base, but the article refers to the assessment process for <21 at the Boston Gender Clinic

"Kids undergo a battery of interview-based psychological tests to see if they meet the medically established criteria for gender-identity disorder. The clothing they wear, the way they style their hair and the type of toys they play with are assessed"

I just think it plays too much into gender stereotypes.  Where do the MtF tomboys fit in? (I know they exist, I am one)

"Well Bobby certainly seems to have 'normal' interests for a boy his age. I just don't see him fitting the profile very well."

"That may be true doctor, but he insists I call him 'Susan' and keeps asking me when his breasts will start to grow"

Argh...  :(
