Title: Out, again and again
Post by: CoriM on January 18, 2017, 11:52:49 PM
First off, this is my introduction as CoriM, so Hello! The name is new, but this is not my first post.

I'm MtF, and have been aware of it since I was 8. I joined this board late last year and found it an invaluable resource for advice and knowing I'm not alone. ^-^ The first person I told off-board was my DW, and she countered with her own Trans discovery/admission (after a few days of digestion). We're seeing a therapist to smooth out the bumps in the road.

Bump #1 :o

My mom moved in with us this weekend, uprooted from another state, lock, stock and barrel. It's nice to have her here, and I hope we aren't too inconvenienced by our mutual decision. The boarder we had was all to happy to move out to accommodate, and the stress level here dropped significantly.

Well, the stress didn't disappear! We were bursting at the seams because we couldn't figure who to tell next or when. You know how hard it is to keep such a secret, it adds to the dysphoria layer by layer. We had decided to tell our adult sons, then I would call my brother for advice on how to break it with mom.

But the best laid plans oft go awry, and mom was picking me up from work this morning. I asked if she'd had names picked for me as boy or girl (no) and said that I'm Trans MtF. She deadpanned to me "no matter who you are you're still my son." That de-escalated quickly!  :D I'm not going to insist on pronouns with her at 74.

My DW was rather upset I did it without her participation, but you know how sometimes it just feels right...

Bump #2 :o

Next up were my boys. Son #2 was all like "yeah, it figures. Okay. Don't give me any TMI." Son #1 took a few moments more to process then immediately agreed.

Am I the luckiest girl, or what? And I got a call from DW, she was able to find an earlier appointment for an Endo and consult!

Now I need to buy a lotto ticket... ;D
