Title: The Mirror vs the Photo
Post by: Artesia on January 23, 2017, 07:36:26 AM
So last night my wife and I went out to a "fancy" restaurant near us.  It was more expensive than we usually go, but I wanted to do something nice for her, and the food was amazing.  Anyway, she decides she is going to take pictures of our food, as it is setup really neat.  She also takes a picture of me.

The picture of me, my face looks quite a bit more feminine than what I see in the mirror every day.  Maybe a trick of the lighting, or just wishful thinking.  Happy that it is happening, startled at what it looked like even though I see it every day, I don't get it.

Lol, yeah, I understand that soo well, well, not really, I mean, yeah, it is soo weird how our minds play tricks on us...

Even after over 5 years of HRT, I still wake up some mornings with my old face in my mind, ugh, and the mirror gives me a reality check, and I am relieved, buuuut, I am still very self-critical, and then, if I happen to see a photo of myself, a good one, anyway, even from a while back, I have to take a loong look, and then it sinks in, wow, I have changed, sooooo much...

I am very happy for you that the camera is catching you as you wish to be, we can't trust our minds sometimes, the residual memories take a looong time to evaporate and be replaced by images that reflect our changing and improving appearances...

Now I am getting hungry! Time for breakfast, lol..

I have to agree with MissGendered, i'm happy you're seeing yourself as you want to be..it can one of the most beautiful feelings when to the point where you may not be a 100% of what you dream you would look like but you're still how you should look (female) and be who you were meant to be (female) lol, *hugs*.

You may not notice changes when you look in the mirror every day.  Same thing with weight loss, other people will notice changes before you.

Pictures give me a really helpful third person kind of perspective I just can't get with mirrors. One of my girlfriends taught me to take a picture of myself in every new outfit I wear so I can get a better idea of what other people see. It's a great way to develop your sense of style!
