Title: I've got a prescription!
Post by: JeanetteLW on January 26, 2017, 07:59:47 PM
Friday I told my VA doctor that I was doing HRT We talked about it and he ordered the hormone labs along with the normal ones he usually orders. I got those results today.

My results are all well within normal female levels.  My testosterone Total is 0.7 ng/ml (70 ng/dl) down from  3.7 ng/ml. (370 ng/dl) and  Estradiol is 93.0 pg/ml. So I am happy my body thinks it's female and my meds are doing what I want.

One of the things he asked was if I intended to get the hormones through the VA. I told him not at this time as I was/am unsure just how far I would go with this and still had some I had ordered. I gave it more thought after returning home over a few days and when I had to contact him in regards to starting a cholesterol medication I told him that I had reconsidered and asked if I could get the hormones also if it wasn't too much trouble.
His response? He is ordering both Spironolactone and Estradiol for me !!

OMG There's that elation and right behind it the fear of it not being the right thing.  I am doing this, I am really doing this.

Congrats!  Im sure its scary finally pulling that trigger. Someone here stated its like a roller coaster ride. Once you start, just strap in and enjoy.

Im trying to schedule my first endo appointment now. So i hope to get my first script soon (probably a couple months due to lab work and follow up appointments). So i will be on the same ride with ya girl.

Thank you all who responded.
Yes, KathyLauren, when you have spent over 50 years trying to hide or suppress your unacceptable desires it is really hard to get others involved. Roller coaster ride? It more like being caught up in an avalanche. Everything is in motion all around you and you have no idea where you wind up. You just have to hope you'll not be buried or at least be rescued before you run out of air. Scary as hell !

Ahhh, such is life, for everybody, no?

You're going to be just fine. Everything will not only be okay, but things will keep getting better.

Nobody's life is without risk of upheaval and loss, for soo many uncontrollable reasons.

I trust that you know yourself enough to know what you really need and want, and the risks involved, and the benefits that can be had...

Just be true to your truth. You are going to love loving yourself...

Congratulations, Jeanette. Your table at the feast of life is ready, take your seat!
