Title: Prolactin too high.. Help :(
Post by: November Fox on February 01, 2017, 08:14:02 AM
Guys, please cheer me up...

I had my hormone levels tested pre-T and my prolactin levels were sky-high but nothing was done about it.
I´m 6 months on T and the ******* things (the top things) have started leaking.

Does anybody know what to do about this? Have you had the same problem?
I will see the GP tomorrow but this is bumming me out big time.

No advice to give, but I'm sorry this is happening to you :( I hope your doctor can give you some answers.

Thanks for the encouragement Max. I really need it.

I´ve done a search on these forums for the same thing and I found one guy who also had this, but it was back in 2013. He never posted what happened after he went to see the doc.

So guys if you ever have any questions like these, make sure you follow-up when you find a solution ;) You´ll be helping others in the process.

I intend on keeping this thread updated.

Update just in case somebody ever experiences the same.

Went to GP and had my bloodwork done. It was fine. Prolactin dropped from pre-T levels 513 to 300 (6 months on T). It obviously wasn´t the prolactin.

I was taking dydrogesterone (progesterone pills) for PMS but apparently this is a (extremely rare) side effect that you can have. Be aware of this if you take any type of progesterone or are considering it. I´m quitting them myself.

Also, if you do have a prolactin level that is way high (over 500), the GP will refer you to an endocrinologist, who then will check that you don´t have PCOS, prolactinoma, or problems with the hypophyse, or slow thyroid function.

I take them, but hardly ever now. I just take 2 days' worth for a few days if anything feels like the first hint of reproductive gyp and it stops it in its tracks. They want me to quit them, probably for the potential side effects, but 2 per month is nothing, I'll use them till my supply runs out I guess. Have not experienced these side effects, although I don't know if they even tested me for prolactin lately.

It's good they figured out what it was. Given my own experience with the pill, and the fact that T should eventually induce amenorrhea, I wouldn't take progesterone with HRT myself.
