Title: Jersey Shore groups?
Post by: CaseyN on February 11, 2017, 07:54:40 AM
I'm going to be moving back to the Jersey Shore near Sandy Hook/Sea Bright in April. Does anyone know of groups in that area I could join/attend?

The closest one to that area I know is the The TrueSelves TransSupport Group (https://www.google.com/calendar/event?eid=NmxnajJvaG5jbGdtYWJiNjZsajM2YjlrY2NyajJiOW82Z3I2MmI5bGNkaWo4ZGhvNjlnbTZlMWdjZ18yMDE3MDQxNlQyMDAwMDBaIHRoZXByaWRlY2VudGVyb2ZuakBt&ctz=America/New_York) at the NJ Pride Center (http://www.pridecenter.org/) in Higland Park, NJ. I live in Bergen County, 20 minutes (without traffic) from Chelsea where there are closer groups for me, but I travel 30 min further to the TrueSelves good because I like the people and group better and I like helping others.

The group meets every third Sunday from 4:00-6:00pm and every first Monday of the month from 7:30-9:30.

Awesome, that's only a 35-40 minute drive from where I'll be. Thanks

Monmouth/Ocean PFLAG has an open group meeting in Shrewsberry on I think the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00. They also have one further south in Tom's River or something like that at a different time.  Jersey Pride in Highland Park (across the river from New Brunswick) should be easy to hit for you too. I've been to both but not often due to family/time constraints. I like the PFLAG one a tad more because in a small way I feel I am helping others more. (I know I am a lost cause)

If you are looking for a gender therapist, I see Donna Klien who has an office in Eatontown. She was with IPG (Institute for Personal Growth) which focuses on trans and LGB clients (also out of Highland Park). THeir website is pretty good for resources and info in the NJ/NYC area
