I have been on estrogen pills for about 2 years, I was told online that long term use can damage my liver, that patches are safer...thoughts?
My Doctor has me allowing the pills to dissolve under my tongue (sublingual) This melts the pills and it passes through the membranes under your tongue thus not entering the colon before passing to the liver. Expect it to take 5-10 minutes to melt the pill. Try not to swallow until fully melted. Otherwise over time if swallowed whole, they could effect the liver.
This article explains this process. http://transascity.org/sublingual-versus-oral-estrogen/ Hope I've answered your question.

If your liver is otherwise healthy and you are taking normal size doses you shouldn't have any problems. If you are under a Dr's supervision then the blood tests are checking for liver function.
However, it is possible for any medication you take to damage your liver as everything that goes into your stomach goes through your liver.
