just curious about being trans and which hand you use . Is there a significant difference with the cis population  The cis population leans toward the right

I am also ambidextrous. I write with my left and my right hand is dominant in other activities.

Ambidextrous.
I write better with my right because I learned that way, but gravitate towards left-handedness with all other activities.

I play piano... so I guess both hands are used equally there but for most things I'm right-handed

Ambidextrous. I also write with my right hand, but I'll do things like hold a sandwich or drink with my left. It seems to depend on what I'm doing. I often use both hands at once for eating and stuff

Back in high school (40 years ago!) I would write with my left hand while taking notes just to freak people out. lol. I also would write backwards in script. Doubt I could do either anymore. I hardly ever write on paper these days.

Incidentally, my dad was a lefty

I'm also a musician (guitar, bass, keyboards) so it comes in handy.

Ambidextrous, great for painting my nails. ;) I write with my right though but lean to the left for a lot of things.

I'm the same, but since I write with my left hand, I've always considered myself to be a lefty, though perhaps not in the purest sense. I always thought the term ambidextrous meant that you showed no preference for either hand.

I do most things with my right hand (including writing), so I selected "righty". But I use both hands to paint, although the right hand is still better for smaller details.

Was lefty, had aversion treatment by childminder as a toddler (yes, punished for being me), and now use my right. The written product from either hand is poor.

Ambidextrous.

I used to write with both hands until I hit a pole in anger and broke my left hand. Never practiced up my motor skills back. But in everything else I use both hands.

Not quite ambidextrous because I cannot write with my left, but I am very proficient with my left when working on things, and I am a bass player, so...

In a simi-related note, I used to be in law enforcement and range instructors marveled that I am a righty but I am left eye dominant.  Apparently, that is rare.

Ambidextrous. Though I'm not as good at writing with my left hand, since I've only ever used my right to write.

Then again, I haven't written anything with a pen for so long that I'm terrible at it no matter which hand I use.

When people inquire I just say that I'm a lefty but ambidextrous sounds a little high and mighty to me.

My interpretation is if both hands are dominant in different activities than you have proficiency using both hands and therefore are capable of switching. Because you use your left hand to write just means you prefer to use your left hand to do that activity.

I can use both hands to write, but I am more practiced with my left so the writing is cleaner. To note I did use to practice with both hands and my writing was the same for both. I just like being a unique lefty [emoji2] .

Ambidextrous. I prefer to write right handed, but for any other thing I do, left is best.

This is interesting that a lot of us ambi's slightly prefer one hand over the other for writing and the other for all else. I always thought I was just a little peculiar for using my left for writing and my right for everything else until I tried more to use both.

Interesting question. 😊

I put righty, but... I have never known how to answer the question. In school when they separated the left handed children out for special writing classes twice a week I was part of that class. Well for about two months when they realized that I write equally well with either, they sent me back to the other class after that. Not sure why, maybe because the lefty class required more one on one. I was forced to play sports by my grandparents, for whatever reason I have always been able to throw a ball with either hand and could hit right or left. HOWEVER, everything that requires detail, except writing, I do with my right hand. I sign my name right handed, but when it comes to writing I have never thought through the process while I am doing it, when I look back though it just seems to be whatever hand is most convenient, or even the side of the paper the pen or pencil is on. I don't think that I am truly ambidextrous, just slightly more able to blur the lines between right and left than most. 😊

I am VERY sure however that I have always said that I was right handed, hit the ball right handed unless the coach asked me to switch and threw right handed after I got a glove that went on the left hand. I did everything I could to fit in.

I am also a "lefty", but don't know that it has anything to do with being trans.  I had a grade 3 teacher who tried to force me to be right handed, she'd walk around with a ruler and when she saw someone using their left hand she'd rap them on the knuckles with the ruler.  That messed up my writing too.  I do most things with my left hand, some with either, but some things I was forced to do with my right hand because tools, baseball gloves etc. were not readily available for lefties.

I perform all tasks with equal dexterity with both hands.

I was ambidextrous except for writing until I was 16 and broke my left wrist in a boating accident. I grew up during the sixties when they were still actively discouraging writing left handedly.

I still have better than average use of my left hand and tend to drive with it.
