Title: When you hit rock bottom face first
Post by: Amoré on March 01, 2017, 09:53:28 AM
Well here I am sitting writing this post sobbing :'( That is all I did the whole day sobbing and sobbing.

Excluding for all my personal crap that I have transition crap my mental health has gone to hell the last couple of months.

They played around with my meds and all that it did was cost my job in the end of the day. I was off a lot from work first with withdrawal then adjusting to meds then meds making me a zombie and so on. My work got tired of this and decidided they are going to put me under incapacity investigation to see if I am able to continue working. Well I ended up going to the investigation meeting and they tried to pinpoint that they are going to board me on not being able to cope with the stress of the work. So the best option I had was to resign before they board me on this grounds.

It would look really bad on my reference letter to get a new job if I was permanently incapacitated for not being able to cope with stress and that is the reason they fired me.

So now I am unemployed again looking for work as a transgender person.

So sorry to hear this. :(

When you've got your head together, it might be worth contacting one of those no-win-no-fee attorneys that deal with employment law, to see whether you can bring a case of unfair dismissal due to disability. It's a long shot, but the legislation does exist and you might be able to sue for your job back, or for compensation.

Hope things improve for you soon.

I'm assuming from your post that South Africa does not have particularly protective laws for mental health or transgender issues. I've very sorry to hear of your struggles, you are in an unenviable position right now. But that said you're also stronger than you think and have more to offer others than perhaps you believe. I have faith that you can battle through this, find new employment and actually be in a better situation in the long run. I know it's pretty bleak right now, but I also know that you can do this if you dig deep in yourself and find the strength to stand up and fight for yourself. I wish you all the best and good luck in your job search.  I pray you find an employer who understands the value you can bring to them.

It feels if they sort of pushed me into a corner bringing in lawyers and people to keep it fair but in a sense it was to cover their tracks. I am technically very capable of doing my job it was a very stressful job where you had to work standby every couple of weeks and have like 3 days no sleep sometimes. I worked as an Database and systems support engineer, I took the best option out of all the bad ones I had because they wanted to bring in 3de party assessors to asses if I can cope with the stress and other factors of the job and if it turns out that I don't cope that well I would have had that black dot on my reference letter.

I really had no choice to walk away with my dignity else than resign from my position.

One of the reasons I have not been able to come forward in my own personal life. I am so close to retirement, and at this stage in my life, would find it very difficult in maintaining a job in my career. And too late to change careers.

I hope you find answers sweetie! I don't seem to have any comforting words. Only that I too feel that same pain. I guess that's why we are all here. Hang in there, maybe soon we will ALL find our way in life. I certainly hope so.
