Title: Tall chicks+high heels
Post by: Floof on March 02, 2017, 08:14:32 AM
Hey! Another Floofy question here, seems to be a lot of them.

I'm 183cm (6 feet) and love heels.. But I feel really awkward wearing them because they make me so tall! Fairly short heels very quickly makes me the tallest person at a gathering -so never mind the really high heels!-, even in Norway where lots of people are very tall. I'm sure some of you must be pretty tall too, and share my like for shoes with a bit of heel on them. Do you proudly roll with it, or do you too feel like they make you stand out too much and cant really bring yourself to wear them often?

Thanks for your input everyone :)

I fall in the latter category unfortunately. I'm only 5' 10" but still slightly taller than the average American (5' 9"). This means any heel I wear will make me the tallest person in most any gathering. I stick to flats pretty much all the time.

I am 6' 3" in stockings (no shoes) and therefore I avoid pretty much any heels at all. A 2 inch heel has me scraping my head on the top of a door so I pretty much stick with low heels.

My height is like you. Yes. I get far more attentions with high heels everywhere. But sometimes I enjoy it. In the street or stores, some people try to talk to me by saying I am very tall, even in the U.S.

I'm 5'10"-5'11" so I totally understand where you're coming from.  However, there are lots of tall women so I try not to worry about it.  I too absolutely love wearing heels. I love the way they make my legs look and the fact that they make my feet appear smaller.  I've found that ballet flats, or kitten heels actually accentuate the size of my feet, making it look like I've got battleships for feet.  Taller heels (like 4 inches or higher) actually help shrink the appearance of my feet.

So my suggestion is, go out and rock those heels like a super model.  Enjoy towering above other people, it's kind of fun.  Just be that sexy you that you feel in those shoes and to hell with what anyone else thinks.

Also 5'11 and I wear 3 or 4' heels most of the time. I love the attention I get. Tall women are very much admired these days and I wouldn't give away an inch.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. I'll try wearing them some more and not be so concerned about being tall :)

My best friend (cis-female) is 6 foot and wears heels all the time and looks amazing in them

her partner is shorter than her and says he loves it too

It took me a long time to accept myself completely when it came to this issue cause when I started transition forever ago, I wanted the least amount of attention on me. Now fast forward 6 years later I don't feel the same way. Its more like I've gotten used to all the attention I get, so wearing heels really wouldn't make much a difference. I've been embracing my height more these days than I used to. I enjoy being fem since I naturally  am. Limiting myself now is kind of a punch in the face to my past self who was trying her best not to stand out. So speaking in general (not to any one person in this thread) basically if you enjoy it, do it, push yourself little by little. If not no need to pressure yourself into something you're not comfy with trying to conform.

I learned early on in childhood that "Standing Out" was NOT a good thing. Just made you a target. So when you are 6ft tall in an age and place where the average female was 5'4" and males 5'8"... Not a good idea to be an MTF. Still I tried. With and without heels, still a total fail

Today, I am a shorter. Today I often do wear heels. Usually 3 maybe 4 inches tops. No more Just about any dress shoe has a 3" heel it seems. And flats..... boring. I am still taller then the "Average" male & especially female. As you noted, there are LOTS more taller women these days. and the epitome of female looks (biting tongue) is the "Super Model", otherwise known as a 6ft or more tall stick figure.

I'm 6 foot and LOVE wearing heels. Literally wear them most days!! And by heels I mean the 5-6 inch stilettos and pumps! I definitely felt like you in the past... weird and out of place and like a freak show. But if you think about it, tall women are looked up too and thought to be the most beautiful. Fashion models for example. The women NEED to be tall, because tall women are sexy. Victoria's Secret angels.. what do they have in common? They're tall. I still go through bouts of feeling weird and awkward cause my height, but honestly who cares as long as you're happy!! Just make sure to be confident while wearing them!!! If you look nervous and scared, it's going to show. And that's not cute on anyone!! Strap those heels on, and strut your stuff! The worlds your runway <3

My favorite heel wearer these days is 6'2" Karlie Kloss. She's totally unapologetic about her height and wears it magnificently.

Consider that a modest 3" heel visually reduces your feet size and makes wonders to your gate and posture.
You're taller than the crowd regardless, in heels or not, you cannot change it, but you can embrace a supermodel mindset.
At 6'3", my favorite heels are 3". Anything less is boring, anything more - tough on my feet and doesn't improve my appearance or presentation (I've worn 5"heels, but did not like them).

I'm 6'2 and don't care. I feel great when I'm rockin heels I think my joy comes through and overshadows any awkwardness. It's all in my presentation. That said, I usually stick with 3" kitten type.

I am 5' 13 1/2" tall and I wear heels almost every day.  I have no problem rocking 3-4 inch heels on a daily basis. They make my size 13 feet look smaller and make my legs look better. Confidence is the key.

Actually... no.  Yes she is tall, and yes of course she wears heels on the runway, but in everyday public life, she does NOT wear heels.  Read for yourself what Karlie really had to say about being tall and wearing heels:

Interesting.

Yes. Regardless of their height, most women do not wear high heels so frequently. I also wear heels for some special events, probably once per week. I mostly wear flat sandals.

I'm 5' 7" and I never wear heels.  Even at my height, I'm already several inches taller than most women (avg American woman is 5' 4").

It's a matter of wearing styles that flatter our figure.  As Karlie said in the People article, tall women look great in high-waisted pants.  They make your long legs look great.  We also look great in boot cut jeans.  And we can wear long length jackets and coats especially well (short girls can't pull off that look).

But heels?  No, I disagree with the majority of the opinions here.  I advise against wearing heels except on special occasions.  Sure, you're free to wear whatever you want, but if you care about fashion and staying on trend, don't do it.

Well.....heels are adorable and fun to wear. Not a lot that gets you feeling more feminine than a pair of cute shoes. So unlike Mirya, I won't forego them always, but the reality is, they're for special occasions. Just look around.  Not a lot of chicks mincing around wally world in stilletos. But every once in a while, you just gotta say to heck with fashion and have some fun. Regardless of your vertical impairment.

I know a lot of tall women that wear heels. I belong to the Tall Society for tall women 5'10 and taller. Last Fall we got together in NYC and there were 38 of us and there were 5 or 6 women taller than my 6'5¼" Amazon self :) As far as I know I'm the only transgender member but they are trans inclusive and some of the members help tall transgender women with clothing resources. I met Bree at the Long Tall Sally popup store earlier last fall in Manhattan.

Here is a picture of Bree (who is 6'9" and she started the group), myself and another member.

Bree is wearing 3 inch heels in this and I'm wearing a slightly heeled boot and most of the women at the event were rocking heels.

Here is another picture of is all outside.

The ground sloped up in the back so Bree and I look closer in Height since she was a few rows in front of me and I was totally in the back row.

So rock those heels and the do make legs look great :)

I'm only 5'8", not that tall I guess but I love my high heels too.
One of the first filters I apply when looking online at shoes is heel height. I start with 3 1/2" and up. (sometimes I check or the fetish heels)  OMG I love high heels!! I own one pair of ladies athletic shoe in black with purple trim and laces so I can get away with wearing them in the evening on short walks. I own a single pair of flats (ewwww) but I own several pairs of heeled pumps and sandals.  I know it's not very practical (neither are my pretty evening dresses) but since I am not out yet and dress almost exclusively in private it's okay. I just bought another pair of 4 1/2' shiny black heels to replace the pair I wore out.  ;D
LOVE HEELS  LOVE HEELS  LOVE HEELS

  Hugs,
    Jeanette

I'm going to stick out a bit here, because I feel an educated truth is better than a blissful lie.

Many people here are saying it's good, and trying to just give you encouragement to do what you want, because if you FEEL sexy you look sexy, but if you feel awkward....

But in look itself, just like with diet, and just like with exercise, there is no one size fits all answer.

How you look in them, if you stick out, is based on a few things. I'm about 6'2", so have had to put a lot of thought and research into it.... because nothing is scarier than a girl who can kick a hole in something while in heels! XD

Anyhow, for sticking out, I used to feel like I'd be a sore thumb being tall in itself. However, hang at a casino for a while and just observe, many girls wear heels that make them look taller than me: Sometimes they're still less, but they LOOK taller. Even at Wal-Mart and the movie theater, I see a girl in flats who is as tall as me... some are "eh", some are STUNNING.

My point is, don't let people give false encouragement, but make an educated decisions since you really care about NOT sticking out. Start by figuring out what the dress to what you're going to is. You're OBVIOUSLY going to stick out wearing heels to WalMart, if you overdress otherwise as well. Most people just going to Wal-Mart don't push a cart in heels, so you're going to bring more attention to yourself, attention you sound like you do not want.

It also matters WHAT heels you wear. Some heels will make you look more petite - several comments here about shrinking the appearance of your feet is great advice! If you're bulky, you don't want to wear a fur coat because it adds too much bulk. If you're thin or muscular, you want to SOFTEN the appearance of your body some, to get clocked less, if it's a concern for you.

Some rules apply to shoes like that, though I don't know all the rules... but once you learn, shopping is half the fun! <3

Interestingly, I had never seen a girl / woman as tall as me, until I walked into a Seven Eleven in Bullhead City Az. Not only was she taller, she was absolutely stunning.

AFAB at 5'9" I tend to avoid wearing heels. Cute flats, and sometimes heels when my skirt demands one, but never anything higher than 2.5 inches. Most tall cis women avoid heels on an everyday basis, except for exhibitionist types.

I tend to be shameless in wearing high heels for some special events, and even in the beach.
People around me treat me as a kind of celebrity, and I sometimes follow their requests.

If you can, enjoy it regardless of opinions of other people.

I've got two points I want to touch on here and their both based on my concentrated observations of other women.  First, why is it when we talk about wearing heels, everyone's mind immediately goes to sky high stilettos.  You're right that those type of clubbing shoes or dressy shoes are for special occasions.  That said, I've been taking note of women's footwear over the last few months in an effort to try and calibrate myself (because as I mentioned in a previous response I do love wearing heels for a lot of reasons).  What I've noticed is that there are a lot of women that do wear heels quite often even with a casual look.  Now they're not wearing stilettos mind you, but boots or booties with a chunky heel, wedges (both boots and even the sneaker wedges), even on occasion a simple pump with a thicker heel. I've seen it done with leggings, jeans, skirts (both bare legged and with tights/pantyhose).  While I'll admit it's less common, I wouldn't say that it breaks any fashion norms.  So if you're out in public where the people are going to see you that one time and likely never again, I don't think it makes you stand out to wear heels even with more casual clothing as long as you do it right.

Second, I looked around at church this past weekend just to gauge how much I really towered over the other women when I wear heels.  As I said previously, I'm 5'10" ish and I was wearing a pair of boots with a 4 inch chunky heel.  I was surprised how many women I didn't tower over.  Sure I was taller than most but not by much, especially those that were also wearing heels. Now this is in no way a statistically accurate sampling, but it was just an interesting exercise in observation.

Part of the actual fun of being a woman is dressing as we like. I love the fact that we all want to be so stealth, we decide we cant bring any attention to ourselves. So much to the degree that it seems we all have to dress like sanitation workers to blend. Wear what you like. Like what you wear. Aat this point, really, who gives a tinkers damn what others think? As I like to point out, your opinion of me is none of my business. L.O.L

Yes, I am 5'6" and I tower over the women here at work if I wear anything more that 2.5-3" heels.  And,Like Mirya said, fashion dictates most of the heel types I wear.  Usually a subtle wedge, sandle, or anything other than a spike heel is more appropriate for the occasion.  Flats are usually just right.  I know other girls like the cute/pretty/sexy heel, but those are for the club or formal affair, IMHO.

My wife is 5'9" and never wears anything over 2.5", and only when it is called for, like you said.  Usually a 1-1.5" heel just for fashion's sake is what she will wear.  I notice the same from other tall cis women.

I was at the TEA Show in LA last night and I was wearing a pair of BCBG 4" heels that made me just under 6'6" tall. There were a number of ladies there who made me feel small lol. I quipped that there haven't been this many tall girls in one place since the WNBA All-Star game. To give you an idea of what I looked like here is what I looked like.

Also, I don't have a lot of non-heeled shoes to choose from every day. Here's a look at some of my shoes...

So happy this topic showed up! Its something I had been wondering about myself.
I am 6'-0" tall and used to feel too tall to wear any heels at all. But now I think that was just all part of my getting used to everything as a whole. Although I still don't wear anything larger than maybe 2.5". But I have been eye balling some 4" heels. Just haven't took the plunge.

I have a smaller foot than most guys my height. I wear a mens 9 or womens 10 or there abouts. Even at that size, sometimes finding an appropriate shoe in that size is a little difficult. It can be done, but you have to look. I was just wondering for those who have larger feet, have you had difficulty finding the shoes you like in the size you need?

Paris Hilton & Maria Sharapova, wear an 11........ Tyra Banks wears 11.5  Elle MacPherson wears a 12. I believe our friend Jess, above wears a 13. No shortage of gorgeous shoes in large sizes. As far as this new generation of giants go...well, there's something in the water!

Most stores carry their inventory up to a size 10. The problem is footwear designers seem to base their styles on about a size 6. Shoes that are really cute for a petite foot don't scale up right to the larger sizes...

Soooooooo jealous of that shoe rack!!  OMG what a selection!!

The shoe racks were one of the things that really made this house special. There were a number of incredible upgrades that just said buy me. So I did last month. I still have additional shoes to unpack and the pictures didn't include the boots that I have on the floor. I guess I am a bit of a shoe whore lol 😂

I get the majority of my shoes at the Nordstrom Rack. They usually have a large selection of shows in my size (13) and I have the added benefit of being able to try them on and see how they look. The vast majority of my shoes were under $50 so they a generally priced great. If you can find them on clearance when they are having a clear the Rack event you can pick up some fantastic bargains.

I usually wear US women's 10 for shoes and sandals, but even 11 or 12 for high heel pumps. When I visit the US, I always stop at any Payless shoes store. The heels there are relatively cheap, but last more than 5 years. I like some of styles there. What I am wearing in the above photo was also purchased at Payless shoes (4 inch heels).

Yes. Here in my country, it is difficult to find shoes of size 10 at street stores, but some are available in online stores.
