Title: Minoxidil
Post by: kings joker on March 02, 2017, 01:22:29 PM
Has anyone tried Minoxidil for their beard? How did your results come out? Did it go away if/when you stopped using minoxidil?

I've known a few guys who used it. I tried it but it made my skin break out. It does say on the bottle that you shouldn't be putting it on your face, FWIW.

A very risky thing to do. I've seen a few guys get positive results with it but from what I've read the results go away once you stop using the product. You can try looking at this thread for more experiences and results: http://jefffsbeardboard.yuku.com/topic/23391/Minoxidil-Summary-and-Experiences#.WLvAVW8rLcd

There is also a blog my a transman named Oliwer where he documented his minoxidil use here: http://loadingbeard.tumblr.com/ with his case you can definitely see that he already had very good coverage and the minoxidil was used to bolster what he already had. You can find his full transition blog here: http://loadingoliver.tumblr.com/ Perhaps his usage of the product helped and perhaps not. 13 or so months on continued testosterone usage will cause the beard to mature more. Some men don't fully develop their beards until their 50's.

From what I've seen with transmen and my own experience you can expect to see some massive results around the 1 - 3 year marker. My beard still had a ways to go but it's at a stage where I could say it's "full" albeit thin. If you'd like I have a link to my beard documentation in my signature.

Above all else. If you DO choose to use this product please be careful. You never know what side effects it can cause. Happy bearding!

Thanks for sharing! I'm really not super interested but just curious as my face starts to get a fuzzy feeling on it.

Two of my closest friends are FTM and both used it with what appear to be decent results.  I am not sure the mechanism that creates success with it, but I know that it is a fairly common practice.

is it true that the progress goes away when you stop using the minoxidil? How is that even possible?

I'm giving it a try. Picked some up today at Walmart because the lady at Costco says they are phasing out the Kirkland products. I thought I had the patience to wait for my facial hair to do its own thing because I had quite a lot pop up on my chin and near my sideburns but figured why not? Hopefully it all works out :)

Phasing out the Kirkland Minoxidil that a lot of people buy. Our store had the foam version in stock but she said that they were not going to be carrying that anymore once it's gone either.

OH OK! phew! I thought you meant kirkland brand everything. Ok. Well I still hear a lot of ppl buying kirkland over Rogain because its cheaper and possibly more effective.

Tell us how it goes with you.

Not FtM but I did use Minoxidil many years ago when I had uneven facial hair and wanted to kind of connect my beard to my moustache and it kind of did work although it made my face somewhat blotchy and it also caused the bags under my eyes to appear more darker and just overall gave my skin a very bad complexion and decided it wasn't for me.

Although a friend of mine also used it and ended up filling in his beard nicely and has had no problems with it so I guess it's on a case-by-case basis.

I do have sensitive skin and did suffer from eczema quite badly when I was younger and kind of grew out of it but still get the odd flair up so maybe it was my reaction so maybe do a bit of a skin test on a small section to start if you do go ahead with it.
