Title: Very late transitioning
Post by: DeniseGraceTS on March 02, 2017, 08:50:15 PM
Life somehow always seemed to get in my way of fulfilling at least some fantasies\dreams of being feminine. But now I'm an older and unencumbered soul. Time to meet my destiny. I've been on Social Security Disability for 13 months. I had pneumonia that turned into Septic Shock (ie. blood poisoning). Spent 8 days on life support and 6 weeks in the hospital. Had to be on dialysis for 3 months. My adrenal glands are week. So I take hydrocortizone 3X day and fludrocortizone 1X day. Lost a lot of memory and brain "quickness" due to lack f oxygen. So gals, it's now or never. I have started ethinyloestrodial and some herbal products. I wear panties and hose. Bought some rocking shoes. Dyed my hair light blonde tonight (hiding the gray). I'm ready and willing. Suggestions would be loved.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I would recommend that you work with an endo and be very careful about the herbal products. Some of the herbal products can be hard on a healthy person and we want you to be with us for a long time.

What would help us is to know where you want to go. What do you need to know that we can help you with. We can provide information on nearly every subject related to the transition including personal relationships, beauty, medical and anything else that might come up.

As for me, I had surgery in 1982 so I just hang around here to pay back the help that I was given many years ago. I will help you however I can but some of the members are far closer to some of the detail and can provide better answers than I can. You just need to post your question and I am sure somebody will soon post a response.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

Hi Denise,

I'm Jeanette, I'm 64 and started HRT last December.
I want to welcome you to Susan's Place also. Come on in, take a seat, put your feet up. in other words get comfortable. Read some posts, make some comments, ask your questions, get to know us as we get to know you.
Can I ever understand that feeling of running out of time. I've spent my time in hospitals due to cancer. Them doctors have told me I am going to die 3 times now. Heck the last time I was in the hospital they tried to kill me themselves. I felt they almost did it too before I called the treatments off. I had had enough. I did better than their other two patients that had this treatment before me that year. They didn't need to resuscitate me. It was rough.
Time definitely played a part in my wanting to transition.
You know around here you will hear over and over again, "Talk to your doctor", " a doctors needs to monitor your levels so they can treat you properly with HRT meds", "Get a gender therapist, they can help you with those hard decisions and help guide you on your journey"  This last one is the one I am currently working on getting an appointment for. I have the doctor, my levels are being monitored, I'm on my HRT meds.  All sage advice.
I know you're in a hurry but I urge you to do it right. It will pay dividends in the long run.
Well  anyway I'm glad you're here and hope to hear more from you as you trod along this bumpy road with us.

  Hugs,
    Jeanette

I'll assume by ethinyloestrodial you mean ethinyl estrodial. My question to you would be has this been prescribed by a Doctor? Traditionally, this isn't used in MTF transition any longer because of a high instance of DVT. Given your age and health issues, I'd see you as particularly vulnerable. Please be careful if you are self medicating. If not and an Endo is involved, ask them why this protocol as opposed to something more traditional and safe such as Estradiol Cypionate or Estradiol Valerate. At any rate, congratulations on your revelations and path forward. It's never to late!

Welcome Denise

You didn't say how young you are.

I am not the oldest around here only 66, but did transition in 1977, so I have found few that have been at this as long.

Like Dena, I can't give any current information.  But can tell others what living this long and have now entered the old age problems set, and what things to expect.
