Eeek! Progress has been made suddenly with my transitioning! So excited! 💙
So I was talking to my mother when she mentioned getting me some new jeans because my pants are starting to get worn out and I mentioned that my taste in clothing has changed (although when it came to bottoms I never really had a style at all--I just went with whatever I think as a preventative measure against dysphoria I had early on started to just not pay attention to appearance?) When I said that, my mother responded by asking, "Do you want to wear dresses?" My initial response was to rush out of the room and laugh awkwardly. When I calmed back down, I told her that eventually I want to wear dresses (yessssssss please :D) but not now. Her response was to tell that if I want, I can have HER dresses!!!!
YESSSSS!!! I am actually really surprised at how excited I am by this! I feel like new with how happy this makes me! Can't wait to try them on!!! :)
Now hopefully I don't have too much trouble when I realize that the dresses don't quite work on me because my body isn't matching my mind and fashion taste yet. But in the meantime YAYAAAAAYY!
Awesome!!
My wife doesn't wear dresses, and my mom doesn't know yet. I also have no clue as to how to size a dress. My skirts are size 16-18W depending on manufacturer, and all have elastic in the waist. I haven't tried a not stretchy one yet, I figure my body is going to change a bit, with my ongoing weight loss and HRT. What I have now might not fit later.
Dresses don't size very well for trans men. We usually have wider shoulders and rib cage, paired with thicker waist and narrow hips.
I find it best to go with stretchy things as Artesia found, or separates. Also anything that fits my upper body, but can be cinched in the lower body (or that hangs nicely without looking like a tent).
We had fitted me in a really cool thrift store dress that we both loved, but then when I donned breast forms it wouldn't fit any more lol.

That's really cool I'm. I hope you find at least some of your Mom's dresses that fit and that you like.
I am one of those that LOVE a dress and never could understand girls that didn't like to wear them. A dress cries out "femininity". I am not small I measure pretty much 41"-42" everywhere. Through trial and error I have found a dress size XXL, 18 -20, or a 1x fit me fairly well. A skirt size 16-18 works also. For women's jeans a 12 will work but my tummy doesn't work for jeans as I have that beer belly from my drinking days. I will have to do something about it.
Happy "dress"ing!
Hugs,
Jeanette

I'm sure that will probably be an issue for me, although people used to try to make fun of me by saying I had fairly narrow shoulders (people think of the weirdest things to attack others with). Hopefully some of the dresses are such that they will fit me.
Thats awesome baby girl <3 - Hugs

Check out eShakti. They sell off the rack and customized based on measurements you supply and it's only $10 more. They cover a broad range of possibilities.
