Title: HRT and redistributing fat
Post by: gwencook on March 14, 2017, 07:19:39 AM
Hi all,
So I've read online thst when you start HRT the fat redistributes around the body to make other areas more feminine, for instance it moves to allow growth of boobs. Is this true? And if so does this mean that it would be more advantageous to have more weight before starting? So for instance would it be best to hold of losing the fat around my belly before starting HRT or does it not matter?
I know this might sound a bit daft but it's something that's been bugging me for some time.
Thanks :)

From what I have researched, fat doesn't move around in your body like fat from your stomach doesn't migrate to you hips.  Instead, what happens is you will burn/lose the fat in your male areas first and your body will distribute new fat to typiclal female areas.  So, having less fat to lose in the first place would be better as that step would already be done.

It wouldn't be beneficial to carry extra weight because the existing fat doesn't move. Fat is stored in cells called adipose tissue. Think of them like little bags hanging from your body. On women more bags are hung is some places, like the breasts. On men more are hung on other places, like the belly. Everyone has bags in all the places, just more or less than the other sex. The bags can be full  or empty and each kind of body has preferred areas to use to store fat, but once the fat is there it doesn't go until it's used. Over time (about seven years), all the cells die and are replaced so the body slowly switches where the bags are.

Only time is gonna change where the fat is. Some people believe that going in very lean is best, under the assumption that the body will put the fat in the new places.

It does not redistribute.  The belly you have now is the belly you will have later unless you diet to lose it.  As new fat is deposited it will go to wherever your genetics dictate under the influence of estradiol.

Nothing but celery until you start HRT, then nothing but ice cream!
