Title: Selective Service
Post by: Andrew on November 17, 2007, 11:33:02 PM
I got a Selective Service registration notice a while ago, so I filled it out and sent it in. I was expecting to be rejected, of course, but I have federal student loans and it's a requirement that you be in their database. (I'm male according to Social Security, DMV, etc.) In other words, you're supposed to send it in and then be declared ineligible.

So, anyway, I got it back and they said I was registered, no problem. I wonder how they could have not known I was born a girl! Of course, I'm not worried about being drafted. Even if there were a draft, no one'd want me in the army. (If they tried to draft me, I'd go in dressed as Madonna. If they accepted me, then that's the Army I want to join!)

It's heartening, though. If Selective Service can't tell I was born a girl, then I don't have much to fear from prospective employers -- I hope!

I have been following the recruiting and retention problems that have become all too common for the Army.  The subject of reinstituting the draft has been mentioned but no one has made a move in that direction.

Yeah, it's a long shot, but I'm keeping my Madonna wig just for the occasion.
