I am a member of a members-only co-op. I was in the local store recently as Kathy. They checked my member number on the computer and asked if I was [boy name]. I admitted that I was, but decided I had better update their records as soon as possible.
I went online to do so. You can only change your address and phone number online, not your name. So I emailed and asked them to change it. Now they are telling me that [boy name] has to resign his membership and transfer his shares to Kathy, who needs to apply for a new membership. Aargh!
I suspect they are assuming that I am [boy name]'s spouse, widow, or some other relative, trying to get her hands on his membership. I replied, filling them in on the true situation. Hopefully that will simplify the process.
On the other hand, I had forgotten that there are shares involved. So they might need to see a legal name change document. That is at least a month in the future.
No real point to this post other than to vent about excessive bureaucracy. Aaaaaargh!! There, that feels better.
Yeah, I'm still paying my electric bill under my old name because their name change procedure was ridiculous. Ironically, it's going to be easier to do what you were told; cancel the old account and start a new one!

Well, happy ending. After I clarified that Kathy and [boy name] are the same person and that this is just a change of name (well, and some other stuff that is not relevent to the store :D ), I got a very nice letter back informing me that my name had been changed, and wishing me well on my journey. :)
That is my first offical name change. What better day than TDoV? :)
Double win! ;D
