I just want to thank some of the people in this forum for helping me in the past really think about voice surgery. I really did not need to do it... all I needed was therapy.
Therapy for me was to take singing lessons. I always wanted to sing but was afraid to all my life. Well I took the leap and got a voice coach for singing and went for it.
It was evident right away that I had a full three octave singing range... which is good. I knew nothing about octaves or anything about music at the time
Voice coach who was on broadway was amazed and said she was jealous of my range.. LOL
Although I sounded like crap at first after about three months I started finding my voice.
Now I am planning on doing a music video this summer an I am recording two songs next month.
I sound female as can be.. its all technique and practice.
But seems I have a natural female sounding singing voice.. I sound a lot like Stevie Nicks or Karen Carpenter. I am bringing back some classics in blues and rock and roll and country stuff.
So, I am going to give you some tips on resonance that help me.
When I talk now, I always always raise my soft pallet as high as I can. It has become natural for me and singers do it to change the shape of their mouth. It vibrates the sound as it leaves your mouth.
I never get mis gendered by voice now and sing in public all the time.
Also, use your lungs so air flows through the vocals evenly..
Think almost of having an egg in your mouth an that is the shape of the inside of your mouth.
If feels funny at first .
I have demonstrated this to others in person and talk like I used to then show the difference it makes just by the shape of your mouth...
Hope this helps ...
If I had done surgery I would not be getting on stage today so I am thankful money and time stopped me...
Not that surgery is bad.. I am an alto so I would have been a male tenor so I did have a higher range than most men.. I can understand if your voice is super low its difficult.. but it can be done with practice...
Cheers.
Hi (D?),
I agree that surgery can probably be avoided in most cases, and from what I understand you still have to have voice training after the surgery! I started with a low range and now my voice is completely female, it didn't happen overnight or a fortnight lol, but it was just a matter of technique, practice, and consistency. And like you, I also found my singing voice, but not from a vocal coach; I started learning how to play guitar about a year ago and my ear for music has improved greatly.
Best wishes for your music career 😊
Hi Kittenpower yep its me D....I think you remember me from my past posts or on FB..
Good for you on your voice.. I had such a hard time before I started singing..
Anyway, I sure wish I had a way to use my old name again but somehow all this stuff gets all over the net...
Good to see your face again..
D
Thank you for sharing this. So happy you've found success through music and music lessons. I agree with you that surgery should be a last resort after you've exhausted all options with your given voice. Wish I had done that, and I think it's something everyone should hear. Good luck with the recording!
