Title: Peeling nails
Post by: biannne on April 10, 2017, 02:10:51 AM
Ever since I started taking hormones, my nails are growing very fast but now they are also beginning to peel.
Does anyone else have this condition and how do to prevent them from peeling?

I do have the same issue but I am not sure if it is related to hormones or me just working too much with my hands.

Apparently pre-natal vitamins are supposed to help. I just don't take them regular enough to see a difference. I just try to keep them in good shape while they are shorter than I really want to.

I have the same problem. My doctor prescribed biotin and acrylic nails polish (no lie!). It's helped but not completely cured the situation.

I thought about nail polish but I thought there was some other deficiency in my body making my nails peel.
Thanks for the advice Dee

After a year and a half of this I suspect that the nails growing faster is making them thinner and maybe making it difficult for the layers to bind.

I just rub argon oil into mine every night before I go to bed. I suspect you have dry nails, that will help some. Coconut oil is another one people often recommend.
Also never buff your nails, they'll peel and split like crazy if you do that.
Wear gloves for doing the dishes, nails hate hot water.
A polish can help, but use an acetone free remover and instantly re-oil them when you're done.
I worry about biotin because of beard growth. Apparently it's very good for beards.
Just get a routine going and be patient. I think most women have this issue. My mum's just rescued hers with an oil regime.

I think I'll give that a try as well. I've been complaining a bit about my beard lately.

After reading some of the comments I finally figured out why my nails are peeling. I work as engineering tech inside a FAB. This is a clean room and you have to hear "bunny" suite and latex gloves. I think wearing these latex gloves for 12 hours a day with drying my nails.

Long ago and far away in another lifetime, I worked in a plywood manufacturing plant. Many of us had skin issues from latex gloves. And many more from the talc that comes inside the gloves to keep them from sticking. Rinsing the talc helped some of us, liner gloves helped others. Escaping from that slavery helped me.

Extra virgin coconut oil would be a better choice than Argan oil for strengthening nails
