Hi everyone,
I recently went to a gym dinner party with a friend who trains there. the people I met really liked me and want me to come train with them, and are telling my friend that I should come. However, I am unsure of I deal with the thingy :( The gym is also a nice place to meet cute guys, so I am really torn on going or not. I want to but my status prevents it.
Any advice?
That sounds awesome! As far as the "thingy" goes, wear loose sweat pants. If you want to wear tighter clothing, then wear a pair of compression shorts under your leggings or whatever it is that is going to be your outer garment. I usually use a gaff and then the compression shorts and then leggings. Or just baggy sweatpants with a gaff. Hope this helps :)

Thanks :) what if I wear thights under the sweatpants? Thights tend to hold things together too... I am just nervous cause nobody knows but I don't want a fatal mistake. And people commented I was really pretty lol so I need to go and talk to those cuties.
If it's worked for you in the past, then do that :) I like compression shorts because I tend to get hot when working out and I don't want to be extra hot with two pairs of pants. Girllllll when I first started going to the gym people would stare a lil , but no one was rude. Just carry yourself like you own the place. That's what I do :D I just went there and did what I had to do :) And I know what you mean about the cuties ;) Go get em!!!!
I wouldnt go just because I don't want muscles, I like being only toned. There's cute guys anywhere you go.
If you're on Estrogen supplements and T blockers, you're not going to get "muscles" in the male sense of being bulked up. Women make that excuse all the time for not working out or at least not doing strength training and I can tell you it's a mistake. Women body builders have to go through a lot to make their bodies look that way. You're not going to get there without T or some other serious training tactics. The idea of "toned" muscles (that term is another personal trainer pet peeve) comes from strength training. So please don't let the fear of becoming some broad shouldered muscle bound woman tear you away from strength training. That will only happen if that's what you want and you go to extreme lengths to make it happen.
AlyssaJ is correct, without T you will not be able to bulk up. I am pre-t and go to the gym regularly and have simply toned up but with no real muscle mass buildup. I pass in public fine, thou I don't use the locker room to change use the men's restroom if I have need to go.
If you are going to the gym to lift weights and stuff, you aren't going to get all hot and sweaty like you would if you are doing cardio. So there is no need to change in the locker room. You can change at home, go to the gym, and then change back when you get home.
That's the approach I plan to take even if I do Cardio and get all hot and sweaty. Of course right now I'm not going to the gym as Alyssa for two reasons. One, my membership is still registered in my male name and with my male photo so they may not even let me in the front door. Two, I don't have enough of my own hair grown out yet to do anything feminine with it and I don't want to get all hot and sweaty under a wig or risk having it fall off while working out.
Once I am to that point, I plan to avoid using the locker room. While my gym has a track record of supporting trans rights and our ability to use the proper locker room, I don't want to do that until I feel I'm not likely to get clocked. Bathrooms are one thing, women don't generally walk around naked in them. I just feel like they'll be far more sensitive in a locker room where they are showering and some have no problem walking around openly in their birthday suits.
I go at the end of my day and can do cardio get sweaty and go home to shower. The restroom is in the locker room so I see guys changing, just walk pass that area to the toilet. Most guys have a trowel around there waist so you don't anything.
Remember you need to take care of your long term health too. Women actually need strength training more than men do, due to osteoporosis issues later in life. Being on female hormones (or even just T blockers) you will tend to lose bone mass, and you need to fight that.
As said above, women generally don't bulk up. The all ages of women in my weights class all look very feminine, even the ones with developed arm and leg muscles. They aren't bulky like the men, just strong.

Just go.
Ignore your thingy. If anyone comments, call it a funny birthmark.
I go to the university pool for laps and have never had issues walking around the men's locker room in my panties, or swimming in my pink bikini. I am always more accepted in the 25-40 age bracket.
Just do it. The more I act normal, the more I am treated normal.
