Hello all...
Today I received my court date for my name and gender change. YAY!! ;D I have to go on 4/25..
For anyone who has already went through this hearing, what kind of questions from the judge should I expect?
Thank you...
I've only been through the name change. Cant get court order for gender until after surgery.
For me it was questions in regards to why you are having name change and to attest that you're not trying to do anything illegal like identity theft or get out of legal obligations.
One thing that was a bit jarring for me was all of the questions and swearing in were done as part of a group. So there were about 20 other people in the room when I had to go up to the podium and answer the above questions.

I haven't done the gender change either, but my name change didn't require a hearing, it's done administratively by the judge here in Massachusetts.
There was one spot on the application asking for the reason. I wrote that I was transitioning from male to female and I didn't feel that my old name fit the person I had become. When the court order showed up at my house, here's what it said. Keep in mind, this wasn't a gender change.

That's just someone, either the judge or a court clerk being a fine human being. :) I hope that your procedure goes well!

Congrats! That's awesome! :)
If I recall on mine, the administrative assistant with the judge had me swear to tell the truth, only the truth, and nothing but the truth. The judge asked me a few simple questions like why I was changing my name, and I told him. He also had me swear I think to not doing anything fraudulent by changing my name. Next thing I know, he signs a paper and said it is done. I was on my way. :D
It really all depends on the location where it is taking place. Sometimes they will just ask you if the information in the petition is correct. Other places they may ask a whole series of questions to make sure you are not doing it for some illegal purpose. In my case in California the only thing said was I see your paperwork is all in order and I will sign the order. The judge then wished me good luck. Good luck to you when you go to court next week.
Thank you all for your replies. I am so nervous right now, yet super excited.
Just an update..
I had my hearing today and the judge happily granted both my name and gender marker change. ;D ;D
I am so happy!
