Well having my ears pierced this lunch time , my manager said go and do it!!(he knows I am trans) and after coming back one of the lads said to him is D*** a girl? , have been painting my nails with strengthener clear nail varnish for months now and told them its cos my nails are weak (they are) and looks like I didn't clean make up from my eyes very well once, then Abby our female tech said to him is D*** a girl cos he talks a lot about cooking. That made my manager laugh as he was a chef once! He is leaving Friday and said shall I tell them before I go as we all get on and we don't know who the new manager will be. Tell the truth I don't mind and will be able to be more Girly .Any thoughts????
It sounds like they are open minded to knowing? It'll have to be out eventually, so why not?
It sounds to me like it's time to bite the bullet and come out.

we don't know who the new manager will be.
This is important. I think it's much better if the new one learns from the current one than if it's you who tell them. So the new one will join a team with this and that members and nothing will change, whereas in the other case you'll have to come one day and change things. I'd definitely take this opportunity to come out.
Just grin and say "So?"
You go girl sounds like you work with a good group of open minded people.
As for me I work with closed minded red necks nothing fem goes here I've tried and was about fired for it

Apply extra-virgin coconut oil with a Q-tip to the nail bed and it will help strengthen them
Thanks, they are getting better , wearing gloves and using hand cream (O'Keefe's) so not been in the oil/dirt and doing MOTs
Well I think I will be out tomorrow as decided to keep my nail varnish on as rough as it is.
Go for it Davina, You have been tip toeing around the edges of doing something to finally out yourself for awhile now.
I wish you good luck that all goes well for you.
Hugs,
Jeanette

Huge drumroll......go for it...sounds like it will be positive. Life might be just a bit easier opnce you are out and you can "train" the new manager properly

Didn't go as planed as sent to our other branch in Worcester to cover. Only Steve who used to work with me made the comment"why have you painted your nails" to which I said for the same reason I had my ears pierced "oh" was the response . No one else said anything but tomorrow have to go to Cheltenham for cover . The manager there was our assistant manager last year so that will be ok. Will keep it on to see how well it lasts and I am LOVING it as they look like my hands now , better with some rings on----
Good for you Davina! You're sticking to you guns and doing what you want. You'll be out completely at work one of these days. No need to rush it. A little bit at a time is all it takes.
Hugs,
Jeanette
Davina,
The voice of caution here I guess! What if the new manager is hostile, are you protected? I would think about getting a feel for that person before committing. I really would love to see you do it but thought I should bring this up. Good luck!
Moni
I work for a big national company so bound by discrimination laws , went to Cheltenham branch today as cover and no one said squat about my nails or studs. I know the one lad as he drag races and the assistant manager has covered our branch , still a good day.
You are doing this one small step at a time just like I am. We will get it done but it will take a little time yet.
My sister told me she told one of her sons and his wife last night and they are okay with it. They come over about once of twice a week. So it's good they know now. 2 more down not all that many I have to personally tell left.
We'll do this thing yet Davina.
Hugs,
Jeanette
Went fine today, Rich (ex bouncer , hes a big lad) said nice nails today and told him it took 5 goes to get them this good and that made him smile. Asked Abbey our female tec about nail varnish ,that went ok. Will be seeing my friend that I built a dragster with at the track Sunday so will see how that goes.
Well not work but went to watch the drag racing and meet my mate, wearing rings and plum shade nails . I knew he would be fine as he deals with wayward kids/social worker. No comments from anyone else but I didn't go around showing off.
Why do I keep imagining the wrong picture, when "drag racing" is mentioned in this forum? ;)

Nice result...are you feeling better about telling people now?

Yes , went in the local shop before going to the track , maybe some quizzical looks , they will have to get used to it. Showed Abbey at work my nails and she loved the colour , suggested I use primer as it chips off easily. COOL!!

If you used nail polish instead of that hot rod varnish it might be more durable.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Primer & top coat.
so my manager was disappointed that I only had clear primer, stengthener on, not wearing colour next week as he is on hols and Welsh Steve is in.

Really great to here your manager being so supportive. Wow, that's just awesome to know you're able to show a little of your true self with some of your work colleagues.
Maybe just colour a single nail when Welsh Steve's about to let him in gently. I don't have to work there so take my suggestion with a pinch of salt. That's some big steps you've been taking Davina! It certainly has encouraged me to read about them :)
Peace and love and all that good stuff,
Sadie
Thanks ladies, want to see if this works . It says 2 coats twice a week or one under coat so can do some colour . Next hurdle is at the Nostalgia Nats some of the lads from the hot rod club will be there and I will have nails and rings and bottle of bourbon whiskey. Lead them in softly , we already have a member who is trans but not seen her for a year plus as they keep dead naming her. She passes very well but easily recognised as her former self, TBH hope she is there for a little chat
So starting Monday will be full time at work, wig should be with me Thurs or Fri . We have a new bloke starting this week but as on hols he wont know any different, just need to get them to use the correct name now
I will be thinking of you and hoping all goes well Davina
Good luck Davina, I'm do hope it goes well for you; and remember we do have alot of legal protection in the UK [emoji4]
