Title: Sick from T?
Post by: Jay83 on April 22, 2017, 02:59:45 AM
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue.  I just started T 10 days ago.  The day i got my shot i was fine.  The next day started shark week and i thought the nausea was due to that since thats normal for me.  Shark week was shorter than usual (thankfully), but the cramping was much worse (unfortunitly).  The nausea has continued and ive also had diahreah (probably TMI) basically since i got my shot.  There were a couple days where i was also super dizzy.  I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen or if it is just bad luck or maybe its all unrelated to the T.

Some guys get a lot of menopausal symptoms when they start T. You might be one of those guys. Definitely talk to your doctor, but I can share some of my experiences.

At a certain point in my cycle, I would get diarrhea. It was just a hormonal thing. It might also be a symptom of menopause, but you'd have to do some research or ask your physician. I know that digestive issues in general can accompany menopause.

I had an early menopause (thank the gods) before I started T. I had a lot of weird symptoms from the extreme hormone fluctuations. One was an inner-ear problem. I wouldn't get dizzy just walking down the street, but I couldn't maintain my balance when, for example, I got out of bed. I'd just fall back down on the bed again. Weird. Anyway, this symptom went away in a few months.

By the way, I see that this post is your first. Welcome to the site. I have misplaced the nice welcome message that I stole from another moderator--it had links and stuff--but do read up on the Terms of Service and feel free to post an introduction in the Introductions section.

Hormones are very powerful things.

I haven't started my T just yet, but I do know that for the first two weeks they want me to start at half the dose and then go to full on the third week. (I will be taking my shots weekly).

If you started at the full dose, you might have just sort of 'shocked' your body's typical rhythm.

Make sure that you're drinking enough water.

thanks for the welcome and also the replies.  I did start on a rather high dosage, i wont say how much since i know some places that is frowned upon.  most people i have talked to started on about half of what i am on.  It was a concern i expressed to my doc and he basically said he was starting me out that high since I'm a bigger guy.  I will definitely talk to my doc about it at my next appointment.  Its not enough to make me want to stop T by any means, and I presumed it was just my body adjusting but its been a little rough.  my next shot is on wednesday so hopefully it doesnt get worse after that.

Jay, I've seen different people react in many different ways. Some guys become much calmer. Others have one or two menopause-like symptoms. Some guys seem to go through a full-blown menopause. I didn't have anything like that, but my attention span was shot, I couldn't sit still for any length of time, and I became insanely impatient and keyed up. I didn't realize how impatient I was until a friend of mine commented on how aggressively I was driving--and I'm quite a conservative driver.

Anyway, I hope that your adverse symptoms go away soon. You should be enjoying your transition and looking for changes, not feeling horrible.

so an update is in order.  I believe i have solved the dizziness issue.  I was apparently not drinking nearly enough and my blood pressure was pretty low.  I started drinking powerade diluted half and half with water.  There may have also been an electrolyte issue too.  after 2 days of really making an effort to drink even though i wasn't thirsty the dizziness is gone along with most of the other symptoms I was experiencing.  All of this just in time for my next shot.  Here is hoping my body isnt so shocked by this one.
