Howdy! My name's April, I am 18 years old and I am a trans girl.
I just hit my 2-month-mark on HRT; I've been experiencing hair loss for almost 5 months now and heard that taking supplements such as Biotin can help your hair grow faster and healthier.
That's why I've gotten Biotin 400 mcg. My major concern at the moment is if biotin cause an increase in body and facial hair growth. I must admit that I have naturally hairy legs and arms, but I guess I don't produce enough testosterone to grow a full beard (not even before starting HRT).
I am on Spiro, and even though I haven't noticed a big difference in terms of my hair growth in my legs, I definitely stopped experiencing five O´clock shadow.
I just took my first pill/tablet yesterday and feel that the facial hair around my chin has grown faster, also noticed that the hair on my chest has darken a little.
I am scared guys! Help me out!
Hi April,
I am not familiar at all with Biotin but I am sure there is NO drug that causes noticeable hair growth over night. Calm down as it cannot be the biotin. If you have drug/medication related questions I strongly recommend talking to your doctor about it.
I see you are new and if you haven't done it already I invite you to pop over to the introduction forum and tell us a bit about you so we can give you a proper welcome and get to know you a bit better.
Welcome to Susan's Place
Hugs,
Laurie
I have used Biontin as a herbal supplement for nail and hair growth for 90 days...Did I see an improvement?... maybe in my actual head hair growth and nail strength a little.....maybe...body hair? not enough for me to notice, facial hair...no it made no difference that I could tell.
It probably made the biggest difference to my nails, they stopped chipping and seemed to grow really well with good strength...will probably start taking it again soon just for that because they have begun to get chipped again and they don't grow as well.
Biotin didnt really do much for me. It more so caused me to get kidney stones on it is all. Was not fun! I stopped taking it.

WOW!! that is a serious side effect...Kidney stones are no picnic...
I've been taking biotin for over a year and can't say I've noticed any negative effects regarding body or facial hair growth. I take it mainly for my nails which became flaky and brittle after being on HRT for a while.

Violets is it the HRT that does that...I was taking the supplement and I thought my nails were doing pretty good but since stopping I have noticed they keep chipping on the ends and breaking pieces off...considering going back on them

Liz, I can't say with 100% certainty that the HRT is responsible, but prior to HRT, my nails were very strong and it was always easy to grow them. I don't ever recall them flaking either. After about 6 months on HRT, they just started to turn to crap. The biotin has helped, but they're still nowhere near as strong as before.

That would be similar to my experience. I am going to go back on them and see if it doesn't improve...having an underactive thyroid tends top make them a bit brittle
