5 mins ago I was talking to my mom and she asked me why I had a shadowy line going from the sides of my lips to my jawline so went and looked in the mirror and noticed it, it's very faint, but I've never grew hair there and still don't so why do I have a shadow there?
I'm not a doctor, but it could be this:

Thanks for that link. I have some of that on my cheek, which, not coincidentally it turns out, became evident when I started HRT. Now I know.
Ohh so I'm not the only one then. Still sucks though :-\ I got it on my upper cheeks and my linea nigra got much darker. Just like a preggos lol I figured the hormones made the linea nigra darker because of the hormones as I've heard of many pregnant women speak of, but I didn't know about the spots on the face.
AnamethatstartswithE, thanks for the link!!
I 'd have to go read it again but if I remember correctly this is what the sun screen recommendation is about on the circular that comes with Estradiol. This particular issue is probably listed in the possible side effects section.
Hugs,
Laurie
Yeah i have got a couple of those and my wife did when she was pregnant. Changes in hormones drives it. In addition to avoiding sunlight, because how fun is that, ( i get it sunscreen but there are times where you forget) there are the other treatments such as chemical peels.
Estrogen contraceptives create this too. It's not permanent, just tends to appear symmetrically in some people in response to E levels. It can also appear around both eyes, or at the sides of the eyes.
It CAN be permanent; in fact, melasma has a reputation as being very difficult to treat. I have it around my eyes and on my neck from estrogen and accidental sun exposure. I now religiously wear SPF 30 sunscreen every single day before I ever leave the house, but I had to get prescriptions for Retin A and skin bleach for the existing discolouration.
I used to have it, and now it is gone. It wasn't budging on a certain level of E , but it also only happened between a span of 2 years, and controlling E frequency reduced it. Gave me serious panda eyes for a while.
