Title: Should I get skin removal surgery before or after SRS and BA?
Post by: Anna Banana on May 18, 2017, 08:01:30 PM
I'm planning on getting FFS, breast augmentation, a total body lift (because I lost 110lbs over the space of 5 years and have excess skin on my torso, thighs, arms, etc that isn't going away), and SRS.  But I'm not sure what order to do them in, because I think that the total body lift throws a monkey wrench into things.

FFS - I guess I could do this at any time, unlike the other three surgeries.  So at least that one piece of my puzzle is sorted out.

Breast Augmentation - Does this need to be done before or concurrently with skin removal surgery due to skin elasticity issues? Sadly I still need to wait another 3 years because I only started HRT 2 years ago.

SRS - I guess this needs to be done after getting the total body lift so that the total body lift won't alter the position of the vagina? I read about that complication once.

So far, I'm thinking that maybe the sequence has to go FFS (sometime between now and 2020), BA (mid-2020 so that hormones will have 5 years to work), total body lift (concurrently with or after BA), and finally, SRS.  Maybe someone who's had some experience in this stuff can weigh in on how skin removal affects the order in which you have to get surgeries?

Hi Anna, welcome to Susan's Place! I've been here for a long time and this is the first time I've heard that question. I hope someone can chime in with an answer. See you around the site!

Hugs, Devlyn

Thank you Devlyn! Though I do worry that it being an uncommon question might mean that the answer is difficult to come by.

Yep, I've seen that thread before.  Before I saw it, I was thinking BA and SRS first, then total body lift.

I too lost over 100 pounds before SRS. I had a lot of loose skin removed and I have the scars to prove it.

From my personal experience, do the tummy tuck before the SRS because your surgeon will pull the lower abdominal skin upwards and this will relocate the site for your urethra and clitoris. (Read the link to my previous post)

For FFS your surgeon can do a face and neck lift at the same time. I had a really good result doing this. If you are going to get a trach shave, have the incision placed high under the chin before the neck lift. A high incision is much less noticeable and there is much more room to do the trach shave before the neck is lifted.

For BA, it all depends on how big do you want to go and how willing are you able to put up with the scars of skin removal. When I had my arms done, I had the surgeon continue with the incision through my armpits and down the side of my chest for 6 inches below my armpits. This tightened up my chest a bit too much and stretched my breasts to each side right after surgery. Now 2 months later my breasts have loosened up a bit and feel more natural, not so tight.

Am I going to have a BA? I don't know yet. I am 2 and 1/2 years on HRT and I wear a 40 D bra. I am kind of ambivalent right now, because D size boobs are not that impressive on a 40 inch chest. ???

For sure, yeah.  It was after reading about your experience that I figured BA should come before (or at the same time as) excess skin removal, and that SRS should come next.

I do have excess skin on my neck (at least I think I do), it seems like a face lift (not the minor/lower face lift) covers necks?

Hi Anna,

Welcome to the site. Really good question beyond my experience. That is the beauty of a site with this many members. Usually someone has/had a similar situation.

I also want to share some links with you. They are mostly welcome information and the rules that govern the site. If you have not had a chance to look through them, please take a moment:

I've lost 40 pounds and still have another 60 to go, I was concerned about the skin so I did some research on that too. I've read that there's a layer of subdermal fat that is one of the last places to lose weight from, and it can be the reason the skin stays loose. If you're over 10% body fat (male hormones), or 20% (female hormones) I'd say there's a chance you could tighten it up some with more diet and exercise. Below that is flirting with unhealthy levels.
