Hey there!
I've been thinking about doing a colon cleansing due to the high amount of pills I've been ingesting since 2015 (I just finished my accutane treatment 5 months ago and 2 months after got started on hormones).
My major concern is if doing the cleansing can affect the effectiveness of the antiandrogens and Estrogen (I take them orally).
I'd like to hear from your experiences,
- April.
I seriously doubt that a colon cleansing would affect the HRT in any way as they would have entered the bloodstream before entering the colon. However, from everything I have read, colon cleansing doesn't really do anything useful anyway. The human body is constructed with organs that specifically detox and cleanse everything on their own. For the most part, unless you are diseased and doing this under doctor's orders the only thing it will cleanse is your bank account.

This is correct. The only thing most of those cleansing kits do is cleanse you of your money.
There is one thing you can do to "cleanse" your entire digestive system and that is to increase the health of your gut biome. It involves eliminating the things you eat that cause it to be unbalanced. This mostly involves eliminating processed sugar and all products containing wheat and then eating a variety of prebiotic and probiotic foods regularly. You could also add a probiotic supplement that may help once the diet is adjusted.

Medically speaking, the only good reason to cleanse the gut is if you are constipated or have scheduled a colonscopy. When was the last time you had a bowel movement? If it was over 2 days ago, a gentile laxative, used occasionally, should help. Also, get more fiber in your diet.
Probiotics are just good bacteria that reside in the lower gut that aid digestion. Nothing new here. People from the Mediterranean area have been eating real yogurt for centuries. When I say real yogurt, I mean Greek style yogurt cultured with a variety of live bacteria that are good for you.
If you are still interested in gut cleansing, it should not hurt anything. The medications still in your gut may be flushed out before they are completely absorbed. But losing half a days medication is not catastrophic. Just resume your meds normally after your gut cleansing.
Yes, there is nothing new to probiotics. However, they are grossly lacking in the standard American diet while foods that promote bad bacteria are abundant. There is also a lot of new medical research showing the link between the gut biome and the host of medical abnormalities that we now take for granted including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, dementia, compromised immunity, and so on. We exist in a symbiotic relationship with the trillions of bacteria that inhabit our body. If we take care of them and promote the health of the good ones then they in turn take care of us and we remain healthy.
The alternative is what we see as the norm among the vast majority of people today.
Cultured yogurt such as ->-bleeped-<-e is good. Any fermented food containing the live cultures are good. Prebiotics are those foods you eat that are favored by the bacteria you want to flourish. These include onions, garlic, leeks, coffee, and more that I am still discovering.
Processed sugar in the absurd volumes that most eat along with the genetically modified wheat that is our main staple promote unhealthy gut bacteria along with obesity and other internal abnormalities affecting not just the digestive system but every system in the body including the brain.
