Has anyone used Tri-care for their Therapy and HRT? I have both Tri-Care prime and full V.A. benefits and am wondering which if better / faster / slower/ better? I have been going to a Tri-Care authorized Gender Counselor and really like her so I will continue even after the Letter thingy, but I figure I can also take the letter to the V.A. to start HRT. I know how slow the V.A. is and just want to start my transition ASAP! I aint getting any younger! :-\
I use Tricare Prime. Last year I went to my primary care NP at the Army Hospital and told her what I was doing. She gave me referrals for the endo and mental health. She also told me to move my prescriptions to the Army Pharmacy and to do my blood tests at the Army Hospital. This saves lots of money.
My endo doesn't take Tricare so I still have to pay for the appointment. But she gives me a blood test order each time that I carry to the Army Hospital. She also sends my prescriptions directly to the Army Pharmacy.
This has worked very well for me. Our hospital here is also excellent so there has been no issues at all.
If you are not near a Military Hospital your endo can send the prescriptions to the Tricare mail order place, or you can use any outside Pharmacy and pay the $10 copay. All you need is your Military ID.

I have an endo team (for diabetes) and gender therapist at the VA, but have only gotten a referral for couples counseling through tricare. I meet with endo Tuesday, and hrt is on the agenda for discussion. Not sure how it will all pan out, yet
