Title: Nail Polish that can be removed quickly
Post by: Erika_Courtney on May 28, 2017, 07:34:50 PM
I am just starting to paint my toe nails, but I realized that removing nail polish even with remover takes me a great deal of time and effort, I don't have that everyday.

Does any know of a type of nail polish that can be removed quickly?

Hi Erika,

More than likely it is taking you a while to remove due to technique rather than polish brand or type.

I suggest a couple of thing when you apply polish.

1. Stick to lighter colors as even if you leave a little around the edges it is not as noticeable.
2. Use a clear polish as a base first. This helps keep the color coat from getting into those hard to remove places.

As for removing there is technique to be applied there too.

1, Use a kleenix tissue folded in half then into thirds long way to make a 6 layer pad about 2 1/" X 4" I find this a good size and thickness
2. Wet a small area with remover and put that area over the nail and hold in place a few seconds.
3. While pressing down and with smal wiggle or rotating motion move the tissue toward the front of the nail and off the toe or finger. Most of the polish should be removed now.
4. Repeat for each nail. wetting a new spot of tissue each time.
5. Once the majority of polish has been remover go back with clean dampened tissue to work the rest of the polish  from the edges.

The above process work pretty well for me, One tip is to not use too much remover, practice helps a lot.

I hope it helps you.

Hugs,
   Laurie

I have used many brands. Poi, sally Hanson, etc. I find that all of them take time to remove. One thing I find that does speed it up is to soak your cotton square with remover and then press it onto your nail for a minute. This cuts down on the wiping. Also regular polish remover works faster than non acetone. But don't use acetone remover on gel nails or acrylics because acetone will ruin them.

I hope it works well for you. It's pretty much the same as what you do though. I've had a little practice at it over the 50 or so years I was crossdressing secretly. lol

I find it only takes a few minutes to remove my nail colour, but that may be due to practice.  I just use cotton balls and nail polish remover.  I first briefly hold the wet cotton ball over each fingernail, on one hand, to start the softening, then remove the polish by rubbing.  To finish off each nail, push the cotton ball into the cuticle, to remove the last bit.  It usually takes only 2 cotton balls, one for each hand, to do the job.

I do not wear shellac, as it is MUCH harder to remove, to the point you pretty much have to go back to the salon to have it removed.

Thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate the step by step instructions. I never really thought about using a cotton ball, I was trying a paper towel. My technic needs a lot of work as I am sure you can tell by my avatar picture. I had to pull the dictionary out for few of the terms, but your post have been very informative.

I should have better explained my situation in my original post. I wear socks all day so my toes stay covered, but before I get home I have to have my toes back to guy normal. I may or may not have access to nail polish remover on any given day and my time frame is less then 10 minutes. I am not really worried if they look great at the end of the day, just that they are easy to remove. I am doing it to get in touch with my inner girl. There are days where I will have more freedom and will have nail polish remover and plenty of time.

Since my post I have been looking at Amazon and found kids nail polish that peals off. Anybody have any experience with this type?

Have you considered just a clear matte polish?

It looks slightly different than no polish if you really look close, but if one is not looking for it, they wouldn't notice...

I have used removal pads quickly and effectively with a similar method to Laurie...take two or three pads places over nails and firm down...wait 30 seconds and start to remove the first one

You can double these pads over of make them thin enough to get into the difficult places and the longer you leave them in place the easier it is to remove the polish...quite a bit less messy than with liquids

I just wish it was as easy to apply nail polish, as it is to take it off.   :D

I have polished my nails a million times and I still sometimes mess up my right hand getting it all over my cuticles. I make my bf polish the nails on my right hand if I am using a dark colour like blue or black that really stains. I have read that putting petroleum jelly on your cuticles before you polish your nails will make cleaning any polish that gets on your cuticles easier. But that never worked well for me. It didn't keep me from getting polish on the cuticle area of my right hand and once the brush was exposed to the petroleum jelly it got mixed into the nail polish and then the nail polish wouldn't set right.

I have used a thin piece of Sellotape or similar to protect my cuticles and simply peel it and the mess off ...I have actually found that the more often I paint my nails the better I get...I have to learn more patience and let the polish not only dry but set as well.

Try not to get too much on the brush

Start just above the cuticle and spread the brush out slightly(by applying downward pressure on it) and push in towards the cuticle

Less strokes of the brush makes for a smoother job

If you miss a bit on the first coat WAIT until it has dried before trying to fix an issue and in most cases a second coat will fix it

I'm sure other can provide further tips but I still mess up regularly and will quite often need to redo 1 or 2 nails...just part of having painted nails

Oh I never thought about using something that peels off. What a good idea! Thank you. The easiest way to get a good polish job is to have your nails done. But it's too expensive to do very often. My nails are quite strong and I have always been able to keep them long so I don't need acrylic nails or gels. So basically I am paying $20.00 to have my nails painted at a nail salon. That is just a bit extravagant for me.

Two points:

When using remover on a folded kleenix or cotton ball or pad, don't get it too wet as that will help it run the polish into the cracks of the cuticle. It will take a little practice to know how much is just right. I usuall put the tissue over the top of the remover bottle with a finger over it covering the hole then quickly get it wet by tilting the bottle over and back. That usually does the trick. then use te we area and repeat when needed in a different tissue area.

If you get a little polish on your cuticle or skin beside the nail, use the rough side of an emery board to carefully remove it by setting the board on the unwanted polish next to nail, press a bit and move the board away from the nail scraping off the unwanted polish. If done just after setting a bit it can come off fairly easily, If it is dry it may take a little more work. Sure beats redoing the nail if it isn't too much needing removed.

You can use a peel-off base coat. For example:

I have used a few Sally Hansen nail products and had reasonable results...anyone tried any of their growth or healthy nails stuff?

Great idea, but I wonder how well it would stand up to everyday tasks such as washing the dishes, showering, or even just washing your hands?

Yup, they did very little for me, and I've tried them all. Nailgrowth Miracle made a nice base coat but I didn't have any miracles ;D

I now use Nailsinc 'Tough Love' strength and treat base coat. Haven't had a broken nail since I started using it and I'm now on my third bottle. A bit expensive but I like it. All this stuff is subjective though, but it's the only product I feel has worked for me and I've got the claws to prove it.

Peace and love and all that good stuff,

Sadie

While you should be fine washing your hands. I wouldn't recommend the other two activities.
It's really only designed to last a few days tops. If you like to change your color often or like sparkly polishes, it's great to use.
