Title: Does the drain fluid have to completely stop before the drains are removed?
Post by: baileycftm on June 02, 2017, 09:38:55 AM
I'm only 3 days post op, but I haven't had much fluid in my drains (25 ML max right after, and decreasing since.) My doc said today or tomorrow, my drains could be removed. But I'm confused- doesn't the fluid have to stop completely?

usually it is when the fluid has stopped or when the fluid is below a certain amount. i had my drains removed 3 days after my surgery. they removed them before i went home and i had no issues. if you feel concerned let your doctor know.

No it doesn't have to stop completely. Your body can handle getting rid of the minuscule amount after they are removed.
