Title: Obtaining HRT in Arizona
Post by: Twoman44 on June 08, 2017, 12:51:18 PM
Hello all!
It's been awhile since I last posted... A lot has happened but my husband has made no transition moves yet. Although, he has decided he would like to try a low dose of HRT to see if it will help settle his mind and allow him to feel comfortable bending the gender rule and allow him to have some female attributes he so badly desires but still does not want to fully transition.... not because he doesn't want to but more because of the world we live in...

We have been going to a therapist who we both like. She has her Phd in Women's studies and Gender Studies. We did finally bring up the desire to try HRT in this weeks session. I immediately felt the brakes in her tone. She did not seem like an advocate for him to try it... She said things that were more about discouraging us from it, where my husband is at the point of needing it due to how depressed he can get knowing he wants to be a woman but (in his mind) can't.

My question is.... It seems like there are not many gender therapists in the state of AZ and even less Endocrinologist that put Trans People on female hormones! I don't think this is fair to my husband. If there is something out there that could possibly help him, why not see if it does? It's like they are holding the carrot just out of reach!
Is there anyone here from Arizona that knows of an Endocrinologist that does see Trans people? We have an appointment tomorrow with our Primary Care Physician. A center here in Tucson told me that there are Primary Care Drs that prescribe hormones themself not needing to go to an Endocrinologist. They said that it's a good idea to at least establish that you have Gender Dysphoria and are seeing a therapist and get his hormone levels checked.

Any advice or opinions on what we should do? I can't see my husband going through life feeling like this and not getting the medication he needs and wants. I also don't want him to try to self medicate with trying to get the hormones some other way like the internet. That could be dangerous!

Here's what we have in the Links. The last listing (Trans Spectrum Of Arizona) has a resource guide that includes endocrinologists.

Hope this helps!

Dr. Toby Meltzer's office has a nurse practitioner in the office who takes care of my HRT needs. As I moved back to the area not long ago, they have also been able to take are of my other medical needs as well. If you look on Meltzer's web site you can get any information you need. As I am post surgical, I didn't need a letter but I suspect you husband will. If there are any questions I can answer, let me know.

You could look into Planned Parenthood until you can sort out an endocrinologist later on
