Hi,
I made my first appointment with a doctor to get started with getting put on testosterone ( :) :D). I asked the office what to expect from my first and second appointments, and I was told that the first appointment would be blood work, and then the follow-up appointment would be to go over my blood work, and if everything is okay they will give me the prescription (but won't be giving me my first shot). It's quite a drive to get there and I would have to have a separate appointment for them to teach me how to inject, I guess.
So my question is for anyone who ever went to a nurse or doctor just to get their injection/learn how to self-inject, how much did it cost you? I don't have insurance so I'm just talking out-of-pocket. I would much rather find a nurse nearby me to do it the first few times so then I can work up to doing it myself.
This is also my first post so I'm still figuring out how to post/where to post and how to use the site. Let me know if I should have posted this somewhere else or if there's already a topic for this!
Thanks!
I'm still waiting for the bill from my office visit to learn how to do it, but you can honestly save yourself the hassle and just check YouTube for a tutorial if you're confident enough. I was shown IM and subcutaneous even though I'm just doing subq and it took about 5 minutes to show me how they didn't even have me practice on the piece of silicon the medical assistant demonstrated with. It really is super easy, I think I got a more thorough tutorial when I had to learn how to give my old cat fluids once per week for his kidney failure.
My very first injection I did myself with an RN explaining what to do, where and why. I took all of 5 minutes to teach me. It's really not very difficult.
