Title: SOS - I'm so conflicted and confused!!
Post by: morninganton on July 04, 2017, 05:56:20 PM
I'm 99% sure I have gender dysphoria. I have always envisioned myself as a man. I have always associated more with guys. I'm genuinely disgusted when I see my full body, whether it's in pictures or a mirror. Physically I'm very womanly. Mentally and behaviorally, not so much. I really wish with all my heart that I were a man, but can't see how someone who looks and sounds the way I do could ever achieve that. Where the heck does someone start on all this?

Help?

First, find and make contact with the nearest LGBT center.  That is your source of "real world" resources.  Second, assess your health insurance situation and find a gender therapist.  Once you see a therapist and get a Dx for gender dysphoria, then get your hormone letter, get referred to an endocrinologist and start HRT.  After enough HRT and RLE (real life experience), you can get your letters for top surgery and bottom surgery if you want it.

First of all, you can contact the nearest LGBT center, like Carly said. Now, I am not sure how old you are, your age can have a factor in what all you are able to do. For example, I was 15 going on to 16 when I finally came into terms of being transgender (I had lived in denial a couple of years before that) so what I could do myself was severely limited. Luckily I had a very accepting mother, but we were still greatly restrained due to money issues (we make too much to sign up for any insurance but we make too little to pay for it all ourselves, type of situation) and because we lived in a very rural area with a general lack of knowledge on transgender issues. There are hotlines out there for transgender issues. I'm sure you can find them if you were to look them up, as I am not sure of your country of residence. There is a Tumblr blog called, "The Transgender Teen Survival Guide." Even if you aren't a teenager, I still recommend looking at it, they have different pages full of information that you might be looking for. There are even transgender YouTubers, such as Sam Collins, that have videos that might help. Feel free to ask questions if you need to, questions are welcomed.

Hi, I totally feel your pain. That sounds like me for the past 10 years.  Ups and downs.  Once I reached out to the LGBT community it certainly helped.  I know what you mean though when you look in the mirror and you look off....that is me still.  So although I am still finding my way through this journey, I find talking really helps.  I would love to talk with you more if you would like to share.  It is certainly a tough journey....and nobody asks for it, it is just how you are.  The best thing my gender therapist said to me after I told her my long long long story was that she heard it before.  I felt less alone.  Good luck!

Hi and welcome to the site.

I am sorry this is late getting to you. It looks like you have been given some good advice already. My only comment would be to prioritize finding a therapist. It will help you emotionally, mentally and guide you through the trans maze of confusion.

I did not do this till I reached 50. I can tell you, it never lets go and only gets stronger. So the earlier you get to accepting and working with solutions, the sooner you can come to "Next to Normal"( I love that show).

I also want to share some links with you. They are mostly welcome information and the rules that govern the site. If you have not had a chance to look through them, please take a moment:
