Title: Caught me off guard yesterday...
Post by: Harley Quinn on July 08, 2017, 09:57:57 AM
I am helping a friend out with surgery as her escort/shoffer, and being the 4am wakeup, I just shaved and rolled out with my guy clothes... didn't have time for makeup or hair. I got umpteen million ma'ams at the hospital as she introduced me to everyone as Victoria. Including the chaplain. Yes it was a military hospital.

I had to make a solo run to the store for some soda and get her some candy.  The clerk at the register called "Ma'am I can help you here...". I had to look back... I was next, but didn't dawn on me that I was being spoken to.

Wow what a mind bender... men's straight leg jeans, sports bra to suck the life out of the girls under a plaid button up shirt, sneakers,  and a leather jacket with no makeup and a bedhead mini-fro... the lighting in there must have been something akin to total darkness, or I just put out the aura... perhaps her contacts weren't in...

I guess I'm starting to near the end of the male era. That was honestly the first unassisted "male fail" in 25 years... what mind-f**k. Things just got real for me... what an eerie feeling.

Holy Moley, what a great day!  And just you being you.  I guess it's true that sometimes the best way to find something is not to look for it.  Here's to many more Ma'ams!

I sure would not mind that happening to me but I have a long ways to go. You on the otherhand, I am surpised that it surprised you. I'd "Ma'am you too.

  Hugs,

Well, ma'am, I'd have to say that this is a Good Thing.    And isn't 'male fail' what you've been striving for?

I'd say congratulations are in order.  Happy Birthday, Victoria!

Congratulations! And furthermore, you were dressed in something a ciswoman would actually wear..comfy male-style clothing.

Let's hope it's a tipping point for you. Malcolm Gladwell authored a book, "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference." It's an interesting read; I think the tag line is important. It is the little things that make a big difference. Those encounters should give you confidence and brighten your outlook from now on.

All the best,

Being seen as female when you're not trying too hard (or at all!) is always awesome.  I'd call it a great day for you.

I love when that happens lol, always makes my day. Even better is watching the looks on people's faces when they are trying to figure it out.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Marks & Spencer in Exeter after having lunch with a cis girlfriend in Torquay. That day I was wearing one of my summer dresses. Its a tailored fully lined dress bare arms, gathered under the bust and falls away nicely in a A Shape. It was just above the knee. Absolutely gorgeous colour with white, pink and orange flowers. I was also wearing my Pigalle loboutin 100mm pink high heels with barely black stockings, with a matching Prada handbag . I came to the top of the escalator, hesitated for the moment, turned slightly to the left then started to  head to the shoe section looking for some summer sandals. I only taken a couple of steps and a voice behind me said excuse me Madam, I just want to say that I think you look absolutely gorgeous in that dress and shoes. I turned and it was obviously one of the Marks & Spencer female managers. I was very taken aback initially but recovered and said thank you very much and gave her a big smile.

Obviously my House of Colour http://www.houseofcolour.co.uk  (http://www.houseofcolour.co.uk)  swatch has stood me in good stead. Probably my very best investment ever in my transition. Recommended to everyone - Get your colours done. I am an Autumn person. Having the swatch and guide has saved me a fortune in not buying unsuitable clothes.

Of course my lipstick, blusher and nails were all done in my Autumn colours so showed off  my facial features etc to complete the look for my skin tones.

Ha ha ha... I look a bit different without make-up. But thank you, it is much appreciated.

It does... I take measurements every 2 weeks to see what changes happen based on medication changes and I rarely notice  the bigger picture. But you're right, nothing better than having that 3rd party affirmation.

True, but I was pretty greasy and my clothes had holes blown outl of them. It was pretty unpolished. LOL

I can't say I enjoy the confused looks. They are the ones I want to avoid at all costs... they're a source of overwhelming anxiety for me.
