Just wonder if anyone has ever considered performing in drag to pay the bills.I live in Boystown Chicago and there are quite a few places for people to perform to make some money.
I have nothing against drag performers, and especially not if they need to do it to pay the bills. But that is so not what I am about.
I don't dress so that people can look at me. I don't want to be the centre of attention. And I don't want anyone to think that how I dress is a performance. I dress the way I do for my own enjoyment and comfort.
I could never do it , but they say that that's one of the jobs that trans do to make a living because its so hard to find a job as a transgender.
as a transgender I do get the strong reaction about not being what I'm all about if I watch drag performances,but if you need to make a living what can you do.
As a teenager I did it for 2 years. Due to my underlying intersex condition I did not fully enter puberty until I was 20 years old, so I did not need to shave which was helpful. My role was like a bartender, waitress at the lounge so it was not to bad really and at 18 years old I was earning 26aud per hour plus tips of around 30aud per night. It was an easy job and 99% of the people their where nice and not creepy guys looking to feel up anyone. It was more akin to a old school cabaret show/girls nightout club with most clients being 20+ females on hens nights.
I would not do it again however as the queens there were ..-cough- not so pleasant to deal with and pretty spiteful to one another.
I've done a version of drag without the "fab", and stripped as well as burlesque before I started transitioning.
Drag performance is seriously competitive performance art. Most of the performers I know work really, really hard at it, and mostly for tips that might not even cover costs. Good costumes and performance-friendly hair isn't cheap.
I just don't have the conditioning and stage skills to even think about trying it, as well as a lack of interest, of course. (I'm busy enough just being me!)
I've never given it much thought. Been to several drag shows where the performers were obviously on hrt, but I don't believe I could do it -- Yet I think it would be so exciting on so many levels. Had I done it, I would have probably poured myself into it refining my craft just as I do most everything that interests me or is worthwhile. Hmmm, wonder what my drag name would have been?...

I'm not really a performer. Except in the sense that we all are... I don't think that is the skill set I have or the inclination. I tend to try more to blend in(in either drab mode or presenting).
In college for a cabaret performance class, I did a public performance in full dress of "Sweet ->-bleeped-<-". I don't think that really counts though.

I think I would have done it. Once I embraced the girl inside me, i became much more outgoing.. then i would have done it... but before that embrace, no way.. I was a very shy guy.
Not sure if this counts:
School theater play of Rocky Horror Picture Show... I guess everyone get's the picture. Completely forgot about it until I started Therapy. Thinking back, I was pretty happy in full lingerie on a small town theater stage. (just as full disclosure: it was in Germany in the early 80's.).
Anyways, I am not artistic enough for anything drag. So that ends day career and I went into the tech field...

I never have and never would. Before I transitioned I had a couple of gay friends suggest that I should do drag because I was androgynous. One of the guys I work with does drag. I can appreciate the work that goes into it but I don't have any desire to do it myself. Even if I did I don't think I'm old enough to work at a club where they sell alcohol. Plus the fact my dad would totally not allow me to do it. Something interesting about trans women who do drag, I don't think they are liked or treated well by the regular drag queens. The guy I work with is always talking about a transwoman that does drag at the club where he does. He says a true drag queen doesn't do hrt and it's not a real drag performance if a transwoman is doing it. He says it's not the true art of drag. (Whatever). He says all the other dragqueens are mean to the transgirl and totally ignore her off the stage. Wow, just what we need more of, transphobic drag queens!

Typically, they're entertainers who can sing and dance, those abilities mean a lot more to your success than your orientation or identity.
If I had talent, I'd probably do it. I live for the double entendre, and that is a good start for a Queen >:-)
