I am having difficulty finding out how much recovery time I need to allow for after GCS I am a mechanic so I would need to be able to do heavy lifting upon return to work any help with this would be appreciated
bobbisue :)
Today I'm 27 days post op and I still get tired much fast than before and I still have some distracting pain. It's not real pain it's more a constant feeling of being still swollen, especially when standing, although the swelling is getting better every day.
So I would say calculate with more than one month. Ask you Doc about the heavy lifting.
Normally it takes 6 weeks to 2 months. One thing to be very careful about is there is a tendency to want to lay around while you are in the recovery time period. You need to be up and moving as much as possible within your doctors guidelines or you will not rebuild your strength. I was in bed for 6 days after surgery but even with the more modern 2 days of bed rest, you lose an incredible amount of strength. There are weight restriction for lifting but for the most part, walking is a good way to improve your endurance.
I am six weeks post op tomorrow and will ask about lifting tomorrow. Up until now I was not to lift more than 5 pounds. It is tricky about the moving around Dena. I am pushing to walk now but every time I do so, I feel everything swelling up. At this point, I tried laying around enough, I guess I will have to swell. I go back to work in two weeks, I have to build up strength.

I had surgery June 23, 1982 and returned to work July 12,1982. Possibly one of the dumbest thing I have ever done. On top of that, had not being able to pee delayed my exit from the hospital, I would have returned to work on July 5th. Don't make the same mistake I made and give yourself plenty of time to recover.
Thank you ladies I think I will plan for 4 months to recover , I think it is best to plan for the longest recovery time and hope for the shortest I still have a few hoops to jump for the gatekeepers but this helps
Once again thank you
