Title: How do you "feel like a woman " ?
Post by: Laurie K on August 22, 2017, 09:29:47 PM
In conversation with a friend the other she was some what confused by some thing I said and asked: " So you don't feel like a woman"?  After a bit of thought, I said: "I really don't know what a woman feels like. ". " I know what I feel like".  I hate who I was, I love who I am.   I have confidence in who I am. I love fashion.  Hormones have made me more in touch with my emotions, that's a good thing.  I hope to have boobs soon so I can be more me without prosthesis. Just to name a few.

So how do you feel like a woman?

I don't think there is any one answer to that question. What it feels like to be woman is unique to each individual. The things that makes me feel like a woman another woman might not even consider.
It's up to each of us to figure out what makes us feel feminine. For me it's just a matter of letting go and allowing the woman I have hidden for so long free.
I hope that helps.

I got asked this by a friend before my first visit to a gender clinic and the question freaked me out a bit for similar reasons.

"Do you feel like a woman"? No idea but that's the same answer as if someone was to ask me "Do I feel like a man" and tbh, if you were to ask a cis-woman I suspect the answer would be "I feel like me" - ultimately, I feel that's all we can ever really know.

It seems to be a question asked exclusively to trans people and I agree if you asked a cis man or woman what it feels like to be either and they would say it feels like me. It is no difference for us...we feel how we feel and if you are woman then that is how it feels to be a woman for you. Its like asking how does water feel?

These days, after a number of transition steps and being 300% focused on the topic of transition, I find there are more and more moments where I'm not thinking or talking about transition or being trans, and in those moments I have a sense of "being" ... it's like I'm just me ... but when I'm saying something as simple as that—meaning when I say "it's like I'm just me"—is actually me saying too much for even that qualification is sort of like a form of transition talk.

No... there are these moments of just being (without saying that or having to think it)... I'm just living life, doing things, working, whatever... it's those moments these days that feel to me like an authentic self. I feel I actually pass more, and am more comfortable at those times. Those times seem to be more and more.

I guess to me that's a form of womanhood... but I can't prove or compare anything. I know in those moments i'm easily able to interact with others with a feminine self... for example, I can complement a guy as a woman... I can equally compliment a woman... but the former would have been impossible for me as a repressed genetic male... and it would have been cloaked in fake machismo overtones that didn't ultimately fit me... borrowed shells. So I sense womanhood when I sense freedom to express and be responsive as what I believe a woman within me to be.

I feel like a woman when I'm treated like a woman by other people.

I just feel like me.  I related question that is easier to answer would be, "What is it about being a woman that makes you feel more authentic?"

My dysphoria was mostly centred around gender expression, so it is no surprise that gender expression is mostly what makes me feel authentic.  I can wear clothes that are pleasing and flattering, and never again have to think how terrible it was that I had to wear drab clothes.  I can admit to liking things now without censoring myself.

I also derive a great deal of pleasure from being treated as a woman.  I recently started working with a theatre group who have never known the male me.  To them, I am simply a (trans) woman, not a guy who transitioned.  They address me as a woman and treat me as a woman.  Being integrated into female groups makes me very happy.

It depends on the day.  I know for certain that I'll feel more like a woman when I can throw away all my men's clothing.

Taking care of my granddaughter. Feeding, diapering and listening to her laugh.

I'm really early in my transition, just came out to a handful of important people in my life.

For me, it's when I hear my wife use my name and pronouns on the phone when she doesn't know I'm listening.
