Title: Blogs and YouTube Channels
Post by: Pupa4Clownfish on August 27, 2017, 03:56:39 PM
Hello everyone. My name is Taylor and I'm rather new to the forum. I came out to my close friends and family as transgender from May into July (I did it 1 on 1). Before that, I was really scared to seek outside help because I was afraid people would find out. In retrospect, I was being dumb, but that's what fear can do. I got my help instead from places like YouTube and blogs about transgender people and their experiences. It helped me affirm my feelings by being able to identify with their experiences with gender dysphoria. However, many of the places I went to showcased people far into the process looking back on what they felt before. This was kind of frustrating as I never saw going through transition nearly as frightening or confusing as simply starting. I now find myself in a not-so-unique but time-limiting position wherein I could create the blog or YouTube channel that I needed when I was struggling. I can talk about new struggles and new conquests as they happen instead of chronicling my whole experience with the 20/20 vision of after-sight. But I don't know how to do any of that. I'm here to ask people for their assistance if you think that a real-time, as-it-happens blog could help people come to terms with the reality that transition is a step-by-awkward-step process and that it's okay for it to be so.

I often thought about making a YouTube channel wherein my first video is of me in my male persona and across the many videos, the female persona slowly starts to take control. I recognize I would be opening myself up to all kinds of harassment, which is why I also considered a weekly blog instead.

What are your opinions and does anyone have any suggestions for where/how to start a blog if I decide not to do YouTube?

My favorite trans youtuber is Charlie. Her channel is called a girl for all seasons. It cronicles the very beginning of her transition up until present day. Her transformation is staggering and is personally a great source of inspiration for me. Not only for her physical transformation, but because of how I identify with her femininity. She's not flamboyant in her mannerisms. Anyways, I recommend her channel. She's a real go getter, and it may help you blueprint your own channel  :)

Jeydon Whale is my favorite from YouTube. He's FtM and he's hilarious. As for making your own YouTube channel, are you totally sure you would want to do that? Remember that anything you put online is in the cloud forever. One day in the future you might want to be stealth or at least not have everyone know your trans. Imagine if you're involved with someone. Would you want them to find a YouTube post of you as a guy?

Just something to think about.

I agree with Julia. Enthusiasm is really common early on in transition and a lot of people start vlogs about it. A lot of those people just stop updating. But many remove their content when they get to a point in their transition when it feels like their entire life is no longer about being trans and they want to move on.

Think about what your end goals are with transition, what your short and long term goals are in your life, and think about how a channel would impact those things. If you feel like it's something that would ultimately be a plus or a non-issue, go for it. But if you think you may come to regret it, it will be a hassle, you might get harassed, etc. I'd go a different route.

I encourage you to do something...personally I write and take photo's...and there is no particular reason or intent to my writing...its those issues that I am passionate about are the ones that tend to make it to paper. I try and take a selfie a day but that is hard to maintain and not that useful...I usually do a couple a week and once I get enough together I will put them together in a timeline. Probably finish it next year once I have reach 2 years HRT.

Keeping the kind of record you are suggesting can be very time consuming, requiring a bigger commitment that you may have wanted and is hard to maintain.  I really do hope you succeed.  ;)
