Title: Picking a name
Post by: Daphnelove on September 12, 2017, 08:47:18 AM
OK so I know Daphne is already in my username but that is just one of many options I'm considering right now. I thought maybe I should gauge the public interest. The names I like are recognizable but not very common. Vote for whatever you like the most. If you don't like any feel free to tell me "These all suck and you're a poor decision maker" haha! I'm open to suggestions too.

I chose Bethany from the list. If I were to completely change my name it would be Ashley. It works for either gender, kinda like me, ;) and Ashley Wilkes is my favorite Gone with the Wind character.

From the list I choose Daphne.  My absolute favorite female names are Helen and Penelope.

I really can't remember why I chose the name Mary.  I remember my mother telling me, when I was about four, that I couldn't be called Mary, but I can't for the life of me remember how or why I chose that name.

I picked Wendy as my favourite on your list.  That may reflect my possibly immature identification with the girls in fairy tales, and that I never had the chance to mature as a woman.

I like Vivian, it's quite pretty. I found that my close friends did a far better job naming me than I ever could. But to the point, I like "V" names makes an elegant signature.

Thanks for all the responses! Still debating a middle name. Right now it's between Allison and Leslie.

Same, that's how I came to be Devlyn Marie.

I know a "Wendy"

For some reason "Jamie Clayton" <add lastname> sticks with me lately.

Can't imagine why?

Jamie Clayton as in the transgender actress who plays Nomi in Sense8?

Gee, does nobody like the name Meredith?  Mind you, Wikipedia says that Meredith "as a personal name, was until recently usually given to boys".  On the other hand, the only Meredith I have ever heard of is Meredith Baxter.

Meredith sounds really old for me lol. I don't hate it but don't particularly like it.

Meredith was my first stepmother's name. Liked her better than second one  >:(

Only 12 votes total?? As busy as this place seems why is that??

I think it's important to choose a name that is appropriate for a person your age.

Names go in and out of fashion.  For example, someone born in the 50's would never have been named Brittany or Megan.  Conversely, someone born in the 90's would not be named Carol or Linda.  The social security administration has a listing of popular names for each decade.  https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/index.html

Perhaps you could choose the name of a girl you went to elementary school with.

Audrey is an exception to the rule.  It was popular in 1940 and is popular now.  (It hit a valley around 1972).

Completely agree. There is a lady that runs a local restaurant named Ethel. Am not making fun of the name at all for anyone with that name. But it throws me for a loop as she is maybe in her 40's compared to most that I knew as a child who were in their later years in life. The height of popularity for the name was around the turn of the century...& not the most recent one.  ;)

To the original poster, it seems you have chosen Daphne as you mentioned you were down to choosing a middle name?

Devlyn Marie made a relevant post in the forum

"How to choose a "new" (real) name..." in Transgender Talk.

She wrote

"Pick the most exotic name you can. Nobody wants a boring name that makes it to those hokey baby name lists of whatever year you were born in. That's how we end up with entire classrooms full of Tiffanys!"
