I've started to wear my hair in a ponytail sometimes since it's long enough. Unlike my family who saw me wear a ponytail for the first time recently a few weeks ago and did not act like it was wrong, others are different. The other day this guy who worked in a store looked at me kinda weird and I know it was my ponytail. Far from my mom who said to me that I need to get some ponytail bands. I get these looks from some people like Im weird. It doesn't bother me usually. I just think they need to worry about themselves instead.
I actually intend to get some purple colored ones for my hair. Let me see some looks with that. Im glad my family is not like some of those other people!!
Hi Larisa,
Betcha if you really knew, that look had nothing to do with the hair. I grew mine out and tied it back, OMG, almost 20 years ago now (I just realized how long it's been!). I was extremely paranoid about it for probably a year, then realized that people just couldn't care less. I've traveled all over the US, Canada, and England, and never ever got hassled, and it's halfway down my back. It's not like I'm a big biker dude or something, either, so someone would be afraid to speak up. I'm 5'5" and 140 lbs.
The only person who says anything is my friend and neighbor who ribs me about it sometimes. By the way, he's bald. I tell him that all his hair is inside his head, which makes it hard to think. I keep mine outside so I can think more clearly.
So let it grow and enjoy it!
Stephanie
Really? I didn't think a guy with a ponytail was strange at all. I'm not saying you're a guy, you just present male for now. I have 2 cis guys as clients and one wears a ponytail and the other has a manbun. I've seen guys with ponytails, braids and man buns. One of my brothers friends had a ponytail until he got drunk and and passed out and the others cut it off. That was a mess to try and even out! (Guys can be so mean!) I really don't see anything unusual about someone who presents as male having a ponytail. I would agree that those people need to mind their own business. But if they are going to stare anyway, give them something to see. Put your hair in 2 ponytails, one on each side of your head tied with pink ribbons at the top and bottom.
