Hi I'm Donna and new to Susan Place, I am a cross dresser and have Benn CD for many years, I am currently struggling with the fact I am Transgender but because of family situation will not be able to transition. I have learned to manage my situation with the help of my therapist am 65 and did not realize I was a women inside until a few years ago. I must have suppressed my female spirit for years. Is it possible to be transgender and not transition? Any thoughts
Welcome to Susan's Place. Yes it's very possible for somebody to be transgender and not transition. The transgender family (https://www.susans.org/wiki/Transgender) has many variations in it other than transsexual and not all need surgery or even living full time as the opposite gender. Transgender means only that you are uncomfortable with some aspect of your gender. It will be up to you to determine where you fit in and how far you want to take it. Feel free to ask any questions you might have and we will do our best to answer them.

Hello Donna, welcome to Susan's!
Glad you're seeing a therapist, I assume they are very familiar with LGBT gender issues (a few are not). My advice is - don't pressure yourself too much. You're already doing the right thing and your answer may change a little or a lot as time goes on. The main thing is discover and be yourself, and enjoy the best things in life.

Thanks for all your reply's I already feel I have found a place I can talk about my situation with no prejudice. My female side gets stronger every day and wants to come out fully, but I have suppressed it to some degree since my family situation will not let me transition fully. However I am taking it day by day and living the best I can as the women I know I could be I just wish this happened years ago as a child the transition would have been easier, or maybe not since I was born in the 50's people stayed in the closet with gender issues society was not as open then as they are trying to be now.
We have several members who were born in the 50s including me and where able to transition fairly young. It wasn't easy and here was a bit of luck involved connecting to the required resources. However we also have many members who like you have suppressed it for years and are here to transition. In any case, which ever path you chose, you are in the right place to explore yourself.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome in the community I do not know if others have a wife that finds it hard to accept my being transgender but she will only accept certain things I want to start HRT to enlarge my breast and develop more female attributes but she does not think this is a good Idea so I compensate by wearing breast forms. Every day my female spirit gets stronger but I also have a male spirit and they must work in harmony I'm not binary when I get home I must dress as much as I can and that is not a problem with my spouse but not going in public. I live in the San Antonio area wish a member lived in this area also so we could communicate. I have learned to manage my situation some times it is hard but working so far. Does any one else have a similar issue that is married? I also have grown children that would not accept my situation except for my daughter who does understand.
Welcome Donna, you found the right place to discuss your feelings and issues. It sure has helped me. I'm a Texan at heart, but am socal now. Still miss Texas a little:)
